Saturday_22-August-2026 As Seen from Green River Dam Boat Ramp Looking Downstream 1977 KY Hwy 55 Green River Bridge KY Hwy 55 Mile #2.6(31) Green River Mile #305.1 As close as I can find, this bridge was built about 1977\78; I know for fact that in early spring of 1978 old KY55 crossed back and forth over the new construction numerous times between Columbia and Campbellsville. The creation of this bridge was a huge improvement over the treacherous hill and dead-man's curve on the South end of the Tebb's Bend one-lane Iron Bridge next downstream from here. Saturday_22-August-2026 As Seen at Green River Dam Green River Dam Standpipe Control Tower The flow of water under the dam is controlled within this tower. From the point where the water enters this stand-pipe, through the Dam, until it exits on the other side = 703' at 211.13° The Dam itself lies at 151.09° If my math is correct, the river flow passes under the dam at an angle of 60°; there must be a reason for this instead of going straight through at the center. The bulk of what you see is Robinson Creek; Green River disappears to the left in a narrow channel between that point of trees in the left midground and the line of trees in the background; the majority of the Lake is water backed up in Robinson Creek. This is the first time I have ever seen this when there weren't at least a hundred Buzzards perched all over the top; zooming in close reveals what looks to be "hot wire" electric fence around the top edge and it is probably also stretched back and forth across the top; maybe I'm wrong and it isn't hot wire, but that would explain the absence of Buzzards. Wednesday_10-June-2020 As Seen on KY Hwy 1730 at Manntown Electrical Transmission Lines along and across the Cumberland River just below The Dam Westbound on (Old)KY Hwy 1730 at Milepoint #0.76(from Old US127) The Cumberland River flows Left(Downstream) and Right(Upstream) across the photo and is just right there beyond the two big poles. Wolf Creek Dam is just out of the photo to right. The lines going left and right across the photo have originated at Wolf Creek Dam. The lines hanging from these two big galvanized poles proceed steeply down to a triple set of like poles, the tops of which are barely visible in the next photo, and then angle across the river to one of those big towers carrying many more wires, better explained in the second photo. In the far distance, just to the right of the right-most pole, is a sheer bluff; I have decided that must be on Jump Off Road. 36°52'17.57" North Parallel 85° 9'14.61" West Meridian 853' Above Sea Level The lines hanging from the two big galvanized poles in the previous photo connect to a triple set of like poles, the tops of which are barely visible in the bottom-left corner of this photo, and then angle across the river to that big tower that you see. In the center of the photo, in the far distance, is that same sheer bluff that I have decided must be on Jump Off Road. 36°52'18.09" North Parallel 85° 9'15.75" West Meridian 848' Above Sea Level We are on the old original road-bed of KY1730, just beyond where the new route diverges from the old; just recently, they have blocked passage on this old path. If you remember the old original road and were to travel on the new, you wouldn't recognize where you were at, they have changed it that much. Wednesday_10-June-2020 As Seen from KY Hwy 1730 at Manntown Distant Grain Bins in Rock Lick Creek Bottom Westbound on (Old)KY Hwy 1730 at Milepoint #1.44(from Old US127) Camera Location: 36°52'35.59" North Parallel 85° 9'45.55" West Meridian 692' Above Sea Level We are on the old road bed and at a lot higher elevation than the new; we are up HIGH, else we couldn't see those Grain Bins; whereas, the new road to the West of us is at river bottom level. From Camera to Grain Bins = 0.43-mile at 271.92°; almost exactly dead West and a hair West by North. The Grain Bins are in Rock Lick Creek Bottom, between Rock Lick Creek to the East and Salt Lick Creek to the West; with Manntown Road in front of them on the South side and the banks of the Cumberland 320-yards behind them to the North. The Grain Bins: 36°52'36.37" North Parallel 85°10'13.76" West Meridian 601' Above Sea Level Alas, we will never get to see this view from a vehicle again.
