I 600 shuttle rebuild

     Looking at an Allis Chalmers I 600 that owner said needs shuttle rebuilt.  I have not seen it yet.  How hard of a job is it and can parts be bought?  Also, I am looking if someone has an Allis forklift for sale close to WV.  Sorry I put this in here because I thought more people would see it.  Thanks

The parts needing replaced are most likely the same as power director clutch parts in a D15 tractor, or I believe the internal clutch discs are the same in a D17 power director as well, but a different quantity perhaps. The clutch itself is the same as a power director, the shuttle (direction change) is within the gears located ahead of the clutch. Where a PD clutch is high/low, the shuttle arrangement has an extra idler gear to provide reverse rotation of the transmission input shaft, instead of low range (as in power director) which allows forward or reverse depending upon the lever position. Someone will correct me if this isn’t correct. I have an I-600 needing this repair as well, so this info is what I gathered from my research. In any case, it requires splitting the tractor to make the repair. To answer your parts availability question, yes the parts can be bought. They may be quite expensive, unless you find a good used I-600, I-60, D15, or D17 hand clutch assembly to use for donor parts. Someone with better knowledge of parts interchangeability may chime in. As a alternative, you can compare part numbers for these models in original parts books or AGCO website, but it can be tedious.
As DIYdave hinted above, the possibility of simply needing re-shimmed could be, but if it has slipped for very long, I would reckon that it in fact needs more than an adjustment.
