I want to replace the rubber gas hose with the 1/4” copper tubing. I have seen it run both in front of and behind the air filter. Which is the factory install?

If you look at the pictures in operators manuals it will be behind the air filter. If you're not worried about it being as was done at the factory, why bother with hard line at all, just run a piece of hose wherever. 
If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere.

I don’t have a manual.
I have rubber hose now. So I guess it works.

that is correct.... but when i buy a 75 year old tractor i put a small inline filter ( like off a lawn mower) to clean up any CRUD in the tank or anything that is added... that could PLUG a orifice in the carb... protect that carb... no rebuilds needed..

Thanks. The tank is very clean inside, but I did find a new piece of hose and a new fuel filter on my parts shelf.
Who knows how old the rubber hose that is on it now. It’s pretty stiff and hard.

I like the lines on the outside of the air cleaner on those style tractors,especially with using ethanol tainted gas it'll keep the fuel cooler and also want an inline filter.Its surprising what shows up in those filters.

Funny, I use ethanol in my weed eater, chainsaw and lawnmower and have 0 issues with starting or operating. I haven’t ran them dry for winter for 2 years either. But I do try to keep them in a garage.

May be just luck, or Kansas doesn't get the same mix of fuel as say the northeast megalopolis.  All 2 stroke I use here is Coleman camping gas plus the 2 stroke mix.  If I did it your way here, I'd be spending on  twice on carbs versus the $15/gal that the CCG costs me...Wink

Ever notice its the folks from corn growing areas that claim not to have problems with ethanol?

there must be variations across the country.. We live in Illinois and yes it is corn country... dont know how that effects it..  I bought a new F250 in 1989 and have used Ethanol in everything since then... mower, weed eater, chain saw, D17, Allis B, B&S mower, van, car, trucks.. everything for 35 years... That is 95% of what they sell in Illinois.. Yea, there are a few places you can buy "non ethanol" if you want to pay and extra $1. a gallon... but dont need that in Illinois... why, i dont know..??

I used gas out of farm tank I filled trucks and tractors at the ranch until 15 years ago, or near about. Then started having trouble with all the 2 stroke engines. Been using the over price stuff since. Still having more issues than 30 and 40 years ago.

But all fuel is junk compared to years ago. Wink But we are saving the world, so be happy to anything other than muscle power.Angry If only the almighty that make the rules would sweat more and think less.

Truth is there are dozens of "boutique" fuel formulations around the country. So where you are, and what the state you reside in decides which formulation of gasoline you get.  Politics, in short...Wink
