On the Perkins 3.144, the injection pump is driven by a three-gear train. Timing and reassembly are straightforward; as a general rule, you simply align the marks on the gears. Very simple. It is on my D272 for i.e
On the pump itself, the gear is secured by three screws positioned in elongated slots. How do I determine the correct position within the slot?
Is there a reference mark indicating the alignment between this gear and the pump's drive shaft?
I am looking for the original factory marks—likely engraved on one of the components.
This is distinct from methods involving rotating the pump while checking for fuel flow at a disconnected injection line, or measuring piston heights.

The CAV brand pumps I'm used to are similar to a RoosaMaster/Stanadyne pump. There is a rectangular cover on the side of the injection pump that has a "mark" on the inside that you align while the crankshaft is timed wherever it needs to be. Too bad there are no flat washer marks on those gear slots to refer to. In the end, usually you are located close to the center of the slot to be correctly timed.

I have this rectangular cover on the side of the injection pump. But i see no mark. I will check again. Not easy to see , there is a big distance between the gear and the shaft of the pump , and not to much space to see.

pretty sure the doc ment right on the injection pump its self  about a 5/8  x 1 1/4 cover two screws,    and you would line the marks in their then tighten down your three bolts   but i would see if their are some timing specs      am assumming the pump was removed and is put back on  zero

Yes. On the side of the injection pump itself. It will leak out fuel when you remove it.

I don't see this smal cover on the pump 5/8 x 1 1/4
Where is it  ?

That is an entirely different CAV pump than the ones the Dr was talking about.

There may be some info in the document on the site linked below.  It is a UK site and is about the BPE pumps.

any timing marks in side that round cap   may have to take the #1 fuel off and turn it until fuel starts comming up and see where your marks on the gears are also may need a degree wheel up front.    does that pump have its own advance  mechinizm ?  if not how many degres is it supossed to be?
