Looked at a 80R mower today. Was told it came off a D14 or D15. I am guessing to make sure I would need to measure the hitch width to see if it matches my D14 hitch frame. Is there anything else I should be aware of? Looks just like the mower my neighbor has on his WD45. I could compare the two measurements to see if they are different.

The same rear mounting bracket will fit the D14, D15, and SC D17. The WD/WD45 is different as is the one for the CA/D10/D12

If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere.
Real pullers don't have speed limits. If you can't make it GO... make it SHINY |

The D14 frame mount is 9 7/8”, the WD/45 is 13”. Hopefully the gentleman will decide to sell it. I didn’t measure it but after looking at my neighbors WD it appears to be the narrow width. Hopefully I will know in a couple of days.

Unfortunately the gentleman decided to keep the mower so the search begins.

The gentleman changed his mind and decided to sell the mower. Pick it up next week. Another piece of AC history coming home with me. Hasn’t been run in 24 years but it has been in a shed that entire time and was serviced before stored.

They are great mowers. Mowed a bazillion acres with one. Keep it lubed, sharp sickle and guards, really watch the cross bar fit. Tough as they come as far as sickle mowers are. JMHO, Tracy

Thanks Tracy, I love my 82S on my D17, but would like this one for my smaller D14 for pasture mowing with some tight areas. Main reason is just to have another piece for a snap coupler tractor, after all it will fit the D17 also.

The 7' R80 cutter bar on my D14 seems to get heavier every year Robbie. When your done mowing, it's hand over hand to raise it up. Grab the rod laid against the tire. Reach in your pocket to fish the nut handle out while holding the bar with your left hand. When your ready to let go of it, get out of the way. That thing is heavy. I've wondered if a 6' would be better.

While my dad was still alive and cutting hay I rigged a small electric winch to raise and lower the cutter bar. This was on a D19 with a 82S mower

Tim, can’t be any heavier than my 82S. I’m always careful how I lift it, hand over hand. But I put the rod in its hook and lift towards it with the wing nut in my pocket. If I have an incline I always have the mower uphill which makes it easier to lift. Looking forward to get it home and try it out. Pasture field has a lot of thistles in it waiting to be cut down.

I have a 82S on my D14. I've made a bracket, added a hydraulic cylinder and plumbed it into the main lift cylinder so the bar will lift vertical all with the same lift lever. I've tied up the rear lift arms. Will text or email pictures to anyone but too difficult to post here. Also you could PM me on Facebook.

Calvin, you sent me those pictures and somehow the email got deleted! Would you mind sending them to me again? Really nice work you did and I bet it works great. Also looking for a picture of the mount that attaches to the tractor for the support spring to attach to. Picked up the mower today and that mount is missing. Curious what it looks like so I can fabricate one.
Thanks in advance.

![]() Not much paint left but it’s in decent condition. Has the rear pto for the conditioner which I doubt I will use. My 82S setup is better for that. Spent today greasing and oiling things up. I took the mount to my machine shop to have a repair done. It is missing the spring anchor that bolts to the tractor so I will have to get that fabricated. Otherwise, looking forward to be mowing with it in a few weeks. |

Just looking at that picture and I get the dreaming about a hydraulic valve that could send oil to the cylinders to run the snap coupler. On the other side of that valve, send oil out behind to a hydraulic cylinder that would raise the cutter bar.

I’m new to the 80R. Can someone tell me if the pins at the hitch where the mower frame attaches, are supposed to turn when the mower is raised and lowered? I would think they should but mine appears to be frozen in place if they are supposed to rotate with the mower. Haven’t put any force to it until I found out. If a wedge pin(which mine is missing)is used to pin the shaft against the frame then I would think it would need to rotate.

Mike do you have the wedge pins for these? I’ve seen mowers with just angled wedge, but also the type that goes in the slot and then a bolt pins the hitch pin to the mower frame hence my question about it rotating. I am have 2 angled wedges made but the other design is much better. The book just calls it a wedge pin.
