    Posted: 03 Dec 2009 at 10:19pm
I have found a #2018 disc, but was wondering if a 190 (not xt) has the power to pull a 18' disc.  I kind of figured it did, but wanted to double check.  we have mostly sandy loam soil.  The 190 has loaded rear tires and rear wheel weights.
Thanks
Adam

I pull 13 feet through hard clay in 6th gear all day long.   I'd guess it wouldn't have a problem in sandy loam with an extra 5 feet.

Hi Adam, I pulled an 18ft ford disk with my old 190 XT and I have clay/muck, kind of heavy and hard. First time over was no problem but had to drop a gear or take some angle off the gangs to go over it again. I would try it, if it works, happy day, if not, sell or trade for a smaller one.

My 190XT gas pulled a 15 foot in 6th with no problem. I'm sure it would pull an 18.

It depends a lot on the disc.  Don't put an 18' Kewanee 1010 hydrofold behind it, because it will park you even with duals.  Been there, done that.
Most problems can be solved with the proper application of high explosives.

I think that will be way to much disc for your tractor.  You want to be able to pull the disc in multiple conditions and have the angles on the gangs set for proper discing and be able to pull it at the depth that you need.   If you're not discing deep enough or have it set properly, you're just wasting time and money.  We have an AC 2500 21' centerfold and there's times when we wished we had more on it than the 8070.

Also if your pulling that old of a tractor to it's maximum limit all the time you will end up with a broken tractor and a large repair bill.

Best regards,
Jason

If I take the wings off and take it down to 14' would that be a better match?
Thanks

Yes that's more realistic.  We used to pull a 13' Oliver with the AC200

An XT would probably handle it (like some have said).  But yours is not an XT, so I would doubt it.

Why sell the disc?  Just get a bigger tractor :).  I bet a D21, 210, 220, or 7080 would look good pulling it to name a few.

just leave the wings up and when you get in conditions where you can pull it or you get a bigger tractor there they are

It just depends on what you're wanting the disk to do.  If you're just chopping up residue or leveling a seed bed 3 or 4 inches, no problem, but for primary tillage 6-8 inches, you'll need that D21 or 220.  I think the 14' would be alot better.

We have a 15' allis man fold disc and you better have 100 h.p. in loose dirt (Ky clay) and a good set of tires. A 14' fixed wing would be better like the other guys said.

I would think you would be ok.  I have pulled our 25' 2500 disc once with our XT and boy was it a load in 6th gear but I only had 10 acres to do and that tracor was the only one not hooked to anything.
