There are many variables in addition to soil type and depth.  14" plows pull easier than 16 and 16 pulls easier than 18.  The advantage to 16 and 18" plows is they can plow deeper and cover trash better, but will take more power both because of width and depth.  The 63 and 64 plows were well known as easier pulling than most others, but typically did not plow more than 7-8" deep.  Another variable is whether the plow is set correctly so the plow is level both ways and the center of draft is close to the center of tractor.  With our XT we always pulled 5-16, but generally it was 9-10" deep.  With our 17, always pulled 4-14, but not as deep.  This was southwest MN, not sandy soil.

I pull a 1-bottom 10 inch Brinley plow behind my 917 -H garden tractor and easily go 7 or 8 inches deep with it.----The wd-45 takes the 3-14 snap coupler plow 12 inches deep and turns the furrows over nice and clean, so yes a 14 inch bottom plow can go much deeper, BUT ya gotta have TONS of power and traction to do it.---thanks; ac fleet

KyAllis is right for Ky soil. 105HP tractor on a 4-16" plow will work but you better have weights up front. We had a 210 several years ago and pulled 5-18". You could see the smoke over the hills before you saw the tractor come in to view!
