Dennis, that would be terrific. I'd be happier with original stock, even if they need some cleanup work. I'll send you a PM if I don't find some here in the northeast.

Good man Dave, I'm sure you will! that's part of the fun of it anyway. I always enjoyed the hunt for what I'm looking for then bringing her back to life. Dave if you have trouble finding fenders close to you feel free to let me know. I know where there are some as we speak that are nice and straight (a little rust but solid and straight) if need be I can pick them up for you and maybe between the two of us we can figure out how to ship them out to you. Dennis

Ah, Dennis - that's because I didn't show you the bashed up fenders! But most of the tin is good - a few dents in the hood that can be corrected and the nose cone is a little beat up. Oh yeah - battery box is mostly dead, too! But we'll get her clean, tight and slicked up.

Dave you should have no problem finding a manifold for it they are easy to find even new ones! Glad you got her home safe. Take your time, go over it good and give the old girl a little attention and it will do you well. You will like that 45 they are a fantastic unit Dave. She's all AC and tuff as nails!

I posted a few days back about finally buying a WD45. Yesterday my friend and I went to NH to bring it home. Loading was easy - we pushed it onto the trailer since it wasn't running and had no compression. Here it is loaded and chained down.
The yellow strap secured the loader. All I can read on the tag is "WD9" and a SN - I'm guessing that it's a Freeman loader. The tractor and loader were bought new in 1955 by the current owner's dad. We had an easy 2-hour run to MA (aside from having to dodge a violent storm - thankfully a short one).
Today we started the process for bringing her back to life. Pulled the valve cover to check on push rods and valves - aside from no compression and gallons of oil sludge, everything was normal. Here's a picture that shows some of the sludge - so bad that we eventually pressure washed it!
Since we had spark, we tried towing it around the barnyard - not even a putt did we get. Sparkplugs were totally dry. Checked the carb - plenty of gas there, but the butterfly valve was frozen. After a quick carb rehab, we tried again and were rewarded with the engine (no muffler) roaring to life! Just amazes me - this tractor was sitting for several years, and maintenance was a "bit" neglected.......and a few hours of work brought her back to life.
Tranny seems fine, clutches are fine, hydraulics work and, with a bit of rehad, the starter motor is working. Tomorrow I will replace the skinny 12 volt cables and we'll see if she will start on her own.
Now to the immediate needs......
1. Exhaust manifold is cracked on both sides near the stack. Are there any NOS or good used manifolds out there?
2. Also looking for both fenders and a toolbox as well.
What a great day! Edited by Dave(inMA) - 05 May 2010 at 9:24pm |
