    Posted: 23 Apr 2018 at 7:50pm
Hello all.  While using my WD45, it suddenly started to make a loud knocking sound in the front, by the radiator fan.  I looked under and saw a part that had come loose.  I believe it is the Radius rod pivot bracket, according to the shop manual.  It looks like 1 bolt came out from it (the triangular plate, part 54 in pic) and the bolt at the end of the flat arm broke off (where the pen is pointing to in the pic).
The plate rotated and one side of it went up to where the belt is.  I can't seem to move anything back into place.  I've loosened the bolts that are still on but everything is still stuck in place.  I'm by no means a mechanic.  What is the right way to fix this?  Hopefully it's just a matter of me trying to do something different.
Thanks.

If it is just the bolts that came out or broke, and nothing else, it should not be too hard to fix.  Might have to jack things up to take some weight and pressure off the front end to get things lined back up and bolted back together.  Be sure to replace with good quality bolts.

And this would also be a good time to go over the entire tractor and check that there are no other loose nuts or bolts.  An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure like they say.

If you need more direction, just holler, but I know you can handle this.

you need to jack up the tractor from the frame rails on both sides,, block secularly,, use a long pry bar,, use bad language,, with weight off the front end , it should move into place,, tighten new bolts with lock washers,, maybe some Loctite also..

After you get the bracket bolted in place. I'd loosen the jam nut on the crank pulley and make sure the set screw is tightened to spec then tighten jam nut to spec. I fixed a WD45 for an old guy about 20 years ago where this exact thing happened. The angle iron that supports the front of the engine was also loose. There is a preload spec for that angle iron that is explained in the service manual. A certain amount of shims are used between the engine and that angle iron. I'd check that out too if it is loose. If it is wrong you might crack the torque tube. I've seen it happen.

I made up new weldments and the angle mount for all my WDs and WD45s. The holes were worn so big that the bolts would not stay tight.

By the looks of the holes, Both of those bolts have been loose for a while. Looks like you need to do like Lonn did, or at least weld the holes shut and re-drill to the bolt size. Don't just replace that one bolt either or you might be back doing the other side soon.

Thank you all for the reply. I will jack up the front some and see if I can get things back in order.  I will take the advice here and check to make sure everything is good and secure.
The bolts in the pics are loose, because I loosened them when I first tried to push the plate back to the right spot.
Hopefully all I need to do is jack the front of the tractor some, then itll be much easier to realign, add new bolts, and tighten everything down.

Ill post back after Ive done this.  Thanks again.

I'd listen to Lon and Charlie. All those holes are pretty bad. If you're tight on funds just put it back together. If you can swing $200, I'd take that triangle piece off and have a new one made. My pivots were not as bad as yours and I had them all redone. I bet the front axle pivot is also really worn.

Whatever route you decide, we'll help you out.
