My 51 WD Does not have the radiator shutters but it has the hole in the nose cone for the lever. Did all gas Wd's come with the shutters or was it just an option? -Jesse

Our 49 WD has the hole as well. And we have the shutter hanging on the wall. But I really can't answer your question.

I believe the shutters were used prior to the tractors actually having thermostats in them. Once widespread use of thermostats was adopted, shutters were no longer necessary.

Pretty sure all WD's had shutters and no thermostats unless the last ones used T-stats when they went to tall head.Dad put a 45 T-stat hsg on the WD.Required some "snakey" plumbing on bypass and a flex upper hose to reach radiator. Our shutters are upstairs in the shop.

I have a 1951 WD, been in the family since new.  Has both shutters and the single exit water mainfold with thermostat in its housing. Incidentally, the 1951 Operators Manual shows the earlier double exit water manifold complete with thermostat in its housing. If anyone is really that interested, I can scan the page for you.  | |

1950 WD's both had shutters which are long gone. 1952 did not have them. Regards, Chris
