 Topic: trans noise when in nutral

I think i have a bearing going bad in a B transmission. can I change it thru the shifter plate on the side? or do I have to pull the finals and remove trans from the torque tube? I dont hear the noise when its in gear and the tractor moving.

Sounds like it might be the throw out bearing. Easiest is just split the tractor at engine/bellhousing.

I didnt think of that, but wouldnt it be noisy if i held in the clutch? it goes away when i hold the clutch in

If it is a transmission bearing. The top shaft can be removed by removing PTO housing and disconnect torque tube from transmission.
Remove bearing retainer and shift forks. Drive shaft
out the front.

The through out bearing should be doing nothing with your foot off the clutch pedal.
Sounds like loose transmission main shaft bearings are loose, not at all uncommon.
You will need to remove the trans to replace or tighten the bearings.
However it could run that way for a long time without hurting anything, in my opinion.

Might also be a pilot bearing, making the noise, but I can't remember what the b has. Try this: Shift to N, then step on clutch, if noise goes away when you release clutch, TO bearing is bad, if noise goes away, when you step ON clutch, its the pilot, or tranny brgs...

thanks all but it sounds to be in the trans area,not the bell housing. I guess ill take it apart this winter
