 Topic: Who absorbed McCormick??

Working on my drag disc, I discovered that I need a "box" bearing with the grease zerk on a tube and was trying to figure which company to start looking at for parts.
It did roll from the property next door to mine, but I don't wish to press it by using it as is.
Was it IH that bought them up and they were absorbed by Case?? Thanks. Jim

A good bearing house should be able to come up with a retrofit part. Sounds like it's a rexnord bearing?

IH merges with Case, then Case/IH merges with New Holand which bought Ford to form New Holland in the blue color , they are all owned by FIAT but as a separate company, but owned by parent Fiat Spa. New Holland is also owner of the Case construction as well as the old Fiat/Allis Construction line or the old AC construction as a joint venture of 1973

You could probably spend a LOT of time trying to find an original replacement but if there is a replacement out there, your local bearing house can set you up. The grease zerk on a tube is just a grease zerk screwed into a pipe fitting with a pipe nipple attached. all available at you local hardware store. Sealed bearings, if available for a replacement, will last a very long time and don't need a grease zerk. Just another option.

I would tend to think the "vintage" McCormick parts would be handled through IH (or CNH as of now) while the new McCormick line is a separate venture through Argo as Jeff has pointed out.

Jim, That looks like the old wood bearings they used to use in old disc's. Maybe you need a planer and a wood lathe. You can glue two blocks of wood together, mill the outside to size and bore a hole through the middle. Split the 2 pieces back apart and mount them.

My part,(bearing), has a straight 1.12" square hole through the middle to fit the axle and looks like it is one piece.
The outside is halved and I'm still trying to figure out how to get it apart.
It has a number embossed on the outside.

this is true. the new versions of old names, McCormick, Versatile, etc. do not have the access to the parts pre 1999 or thereabouts when all the merging and anti-trust split-offs were going on. The new owners got marketing names and production facilities but no parts support. (old McCormick can be found in the case ih parts site, and Versatile is found in New holland...) It's the corporate way of crippling your competition when the government(s) mandate you give them some of your holdings when you get too big. Some older equipment isn't listed in the online catalogs, but an old dealer with books should be able to help you, provided they were originally a dealer with your specific machine's parent company...

Thanks ACMower and KF for the line of thought. I do have an IH/Case dealer down in Chickasha,30 miles, that used to be an AC dealer and did have some AC tractors there at one time after all of the merging and I think that they are not a NH dealer, yet, that I know of.
I'll see when I can sneak down there with my parts.

1985
In late 1984 Tenneco owner of "Case" and "David Brown" brands declares its intention to purchase certain assets of International Harvesters Agricultural Division.
The deal is concluded in 1985 and Harvester is placed under the control of "Tenneco's" Case division.
All products from Case's agricultural division are rebranded "Case International". 85 series range continues in production until 1987.
Coke, as stated above IH did not merge with Case. IH did exactly what AC did, sold out to another company albeit one with the foresight to recognise the value of the names and heritage that they had purchased. Unlike some other companies, Fiat also recognises and rewards the previous brand loyalty of their customers.

The former CEO for the company I worked for came from John Deer and was known for improving JD and changing it to a profitable company in the late 70's early 80's . On leaving JD he took over a JD Construction/Industrial dealer here in MN as part of his retirement from Deer. He then put his son in charge of that and took over the job at the company i worked for he took if from insolvency to paid bills and profitable business in 5 years and stock from $2 to $38 in market, from $158 Million in debt to a $30 Million per yer profitable business.
When he left he went to Tenneco / Case Construction and made them a profitable division and arranged the sale to Fiat Group/ New Holland . On completion of that project he got involved with a Russian Oil conglomerate to bring them into the 20th century and to make then a stock company with capitalist system of ownership.
Oh and the guy he left in charge at the company where i worked , he managed within 6 years to bring stock to $ 0.00 value and bankrupt .His salary was $3 Million the first year and up to $12 Million in the 4th year all the while the company was bleeding to death under his leadership

Coke not that it matters, but Case/Tenneco bought IH, Ford bought New Holland and was badged Ford NewHolland, than ford sold its interest to Fiat and it became New Holland North America,Tenneco sold off CaseIH as a PO and despite how the IH guys spin it CaseIH didnt Merge with New Holland they were bought out completely by New Holland north America, to save them from bankrutcy and the new company was named CNH NA, which is more or less almost comletely owned by the Fiat group from italy. My CaseIH friends always like to say they merged, but I was involved with NH on a small basis at that time and there was no merging, it was swallowed.

If memory serves, McCormick and Deering merged into McCormick Deering. Later that name disappeared when they became a part of IHC. Never thought I would see the day when IHC disappeared.
