My recently purchased D-14 has had the original AC oil pressure gauge replaced. The current one has readings up to 80 psi. With the engine at operating temp the gauge barely registers over 3 psi of pressure. Is there a difference between oil pressure gauges? What should the engine oil pressure be for a D-14?

Try to find a gauge that just goes to 30 pounds max.
I use fuel pressure gauges 0-15 lbs on my B's and C's that never see 15 lbs oil pressure cold but they are small and for some hard to see. |

Jeff is correct. A gauge that goes to 80 will not read correctly in the 8-12 range. We have factory style, or you can find generics that max out at 30. That would still be higher, but finding one that tops out at 15 for oil is tough to find.

My '57 D-14 holds good oil pressure (more than 30 in the upper rpms). Is the tube in the oil filter in place? |

Like several have said a 30 psi max gauge is all you need. You will see proabably see about 10 psi when it is running. The original gauge did not read a pressure. It just showed normal range. They have them on ebay. I posted a link below. Note that I have bought nothing from them. I simply found it quickly when I looked.

If the tube was missing, you would probably have 0 pressure showing. Your gauge may not be correct if it shows 30 after it warms up good or your filter or tube could be restricted. Edited by CTuckerNWIL - 19 Sep 2011 at 7:50pm |

Thanks everyone for the replies. You have confirmed what I suspected regarding the existing gauge. Nick , the oil filter tube is in place. I'll be replacing the old one with a new one of correct pressure range.
Thanks again. |
