Been a few years since I changed my hydro oil(less than a 100 hrs ago). So I decided to change the oil and filter since this one sets outside under cover. Drained the fluid over night, picked up 6 quarts and filter. After 5 quarts I checked the level and it was way above the full mark. I started it, ran it around a little bit, let it set for 15 minutes and rechecked the level again. It is still above the mark. What am I missing here? Hood clearly says 6 quarts. No way the lines to the front and oil cooler could have more than a quart in them? Wouldn’t that have drained out?

Did you take both plugs out when you drained it? I think the temp sensor has to be removed to get all the oil out.

I removed the the temp sensor to drain as it is the lowest point. Guess I need to pull my book out.

Rob, I think both plugs need to be out to drain the tranny completely. Don't remember myself now. Sheesh! A mind is a terrible thing to waste... LOL! Steve@B&B

I took out the sending unit today, let it drain for quite a while, then removed the suction tube and a BUNCH more fluid came out. I'd say removing both is the best route to take..
I guarantee that there's a quart in the hydro lines, cooler, pump, front circuit, rear circuit, etc..

Thanks Mojo, I do now remember doing that the last time. There is a procedure in the book describing how to bleed the system afterwards. I think I stuck a female fitting upfront and shot it in a 5 gallon bucket. It will make a mess even though it does take much to clear the air. A lot of pressure there.

It should flow around 2.5 gallons per minute at 500psi.
Not enough flow to run a hydraulic chainsaw unfortunately..
