So as I'm reading other threads about different tractors and loaders (d-17 with 500 series loader) I'm starting to see that a filter is possible in these scenarios and got me to wondering does my CA or d-17 have any kind of filter for the transmission or hydraulic fluid?
Should there be a filter on implements main line attachment point to the tractor to eliminate contamination from implements to hydraulic pump? Thanks Matt |

Ya can't have a filter on a pressure line. It would have to be on the intake side of the pump, or on a return line to the reservoir.

I would not worry about it... Keep the tractor under cover so rain does not run down the shift lever into the case, etc... Then change the oil every 5 years if you think it needs it.

Like them all, but love the "B"s.

Steve,
I'm more concerned with the implements oil leftover in lines and cylinders that are really old and unknown contaminating my newly cleaned and rebuilt hydraulic pump/ trans oil. I'm tempted to replace all lines and flush cylinders out on trip loader front loader bucket... |

Only Series 3 and 4 D17s had a hydraulic oil filter.

There are hi pressure filters that can be used on pressure side, but on your CA, you have oil flow both direction. Any thing caught going out could be flushed back into pump when cylinder is retracted. MACK

A hyd filter in in the intake line of the pump. Your intake line is attached to the back of your pump. It goes straight down into the differential sump. Your hydraulic system is a simple one way with no circulating fluid. A pressure filter is only used in a system with circulating fluid. Yours fluid goes from the pump into the ram. Gravity pushes it back. Thru the same line.
