Too wet to plant onions today so I dug a hill of horseradish. We sent some crowns to people wanting a start of this old variety and made a small jar of ground for me. ( wife don't use it!!) but she makes it in the food processor if I clean the roots and cut them up into smaller pieces so they grind better. I used to use meat grinder, but for small amounts this works better. ![]() ![]() This is some hot stuff! I can't dig much with spade anymore, so I cheated!!---Forks on the skid loader mad quick work of the job! Thanks; ac fleet

Now that is some GOOD looking root!! We used to always grind and make it in the fall. Ours was kind of mild. If you want to get rid of a couple of shavings of yours, if indeed it is HOT....NOTHING better than Braunschweiger, onion, horseradish and pepper for a samich!!!

Dad used to find it wild and bring it home. We had to take turns at the grinder cause it made your eyes water so much. Haven't done any in quite a few years. My Dad always put a little cream in his, but I don't know the ratio. Always had the best horseradish growing up.

That is some healthy but kicking roots you have there. Can't remember seeing anything like that.

This variety is the HOT stuff. We sorta cultivate/fertilize/water it during the growing season . Most of it is planted at the end of one of the gardens so it gets weeded and extra water in dry spells. You can make it to your own taste. some like it hot,---some mild, so it's pretty flexible in that department. The growing area is really black/deep soil, and it does well there. I think the main thing is to keep weeds/grass away from it and water when really dry will make nice tender roots. Thanks; ac fleet

![]() ![]() ![]() The first time I got sent up to the Refinery in Black Eagle, Montana,,,the plant manager took us to go eat and drink beer at one of the many bars "out in the Boonies",,,,they call em "coolies" and each one specializes in some kind of special sammich or whatever,,,,,,, This particular one,,"Sand Coulie" soecialized in "Kolatches" and after a few rounds,,the Boss man said it was time to eat so he ordered several of them Hot Dog lookin sammiches. All the locals started to add some of this white lookin stuff and they all asked if I wasn't gonna do some too,,,,,SOOooo,,,me wantin to be "part of the crowd" I just slopped a nice sized glop of that stuff,,,,,,,after they gave me mouth to mouth and brought me back,,,they said I actually turned Blue,,,,,Sum Beech !!!!,,,,was that chit the hottest I had ever ate,,,there wasn't any Jalapeno I had ever ate that compared to that chunk of FIRE,,,,,,throwed that friggin Kolachi in the fireplace and ordered me a hamburger After 6 years,,,them guys up there would still call me Horseradish Joe,,,,,AH's,,,,

I ALWAYS have a guy try just a 'dab' of our good stuff. It doesn't smell that good, but WOW, it'll take your breath away (for at least 2 minutes), bring BIG tears to your eyes and take all the hair out of your nose (and maybe your ears)!!
NEVER been one to laugh at a guy or let him make a fool of hisself either. That's just plain cruel and for no reason. NOW, AFTER you want the guy and he still wants to take the whole half a teaspoon,,,,,,,,,,,well, that's HIS side of the story.... Thad, NONE of that red sauce can hold a candle to some good horseradish...HONEST... |

My dad loved it too and would find it wild, I like it very sparingly. I used to buy mustard with horseradish in it.
