I recently got my grandpas d 17 that he farmed hard as his main tractor for 50 years I have a little hobby farm so it has a pretty easy life I’m trying to get rid of the creep it has from the Power director did my measurements and I need to take 25 thousandths off the high side and 35 off the low side so I have to add 60 to the netrual I’m just wondering if this is right just looks butt backwards since it’s suspose to be 85, 35, 85 but with how it is after years of abuse my numbers after I have it in spec will be 30, 145, 30 so what I’m wondering is has anyone else had there Power director end up like this will it work or do need to start looking for a replacement one or just deal with the creep I mean I can stop it with the brake but it will start going again even after the ol girl is good and warm just wondering what anyone else has delt with

Creep is pretty normal from the drag of the oil.

The total amount of shims at each station should add up to .205". There should only be LONG shims in the center location and SHORT shims front and rear. Modern day Hy-Tran oil or the like is better than 80/90 wt for drag. If you are really concerned, use Dexron auto-trans fluid from a car. This is what Series 4 tractors had in them from the Factory and is even lighter viscosity than Hy-Tran. On that vintage of tractor I can almost guarantee the inner driving hubs have notches worn in them causing the discs to hang up a bit. To remedy this would require a split and $$$$ for something that wouldn't bother me. If it doesn't pop out of high or low range and doesn't slip under load, I'll bet my $$$$ stays in my pocket.

I believe the Power Director compartment is 2 gallons. Go by the dipstick with tractor sitting on the level.

It's the nature of the beast. They all creep to some extent. I have adjusted the neutral position on my hand clutch to reduce it - almost impossible to eliminate.
It's not causing you any major problems, don't throw money at it. |
