What are the good, bad, and ugly points of a TL 20 payloader. One I am looking at has a 4 cylinder Allis diesel; is this the correct engine for the machine. There is no data plate on the engine, so I don't know much about it, other than that it is a four banger diesel. Engine hood is missing; how available are they in the scrap yards? Someone has made an exhaust manifold for it by welding pipes onto flat irons, which are in turn bolted onto the exhaust ports of the head. Should be able to find a good used one, not? I see there is an extra transmission laying under a tarp beside it, which may or may not be a good sign. Supposin the tranny is out of it, and the one laying beside it is good, just needs puttin in, how tough of a job is that? Any info is appreciated. Thanks, Darrel

According to Swinford's Construction book.

1957-1958 they came with the 4DI-344 engine

1959-1962 they came with the D-516 engine
