Picked the first berries of the season today. Had to put row covers on and off twice this year. That in itself is a job. Grandkids ate more than went into baskets. They love those berries! Tracy

I just planted 50 Earliglow strawberries. Not sure how well they will do in the hot, dry, windy summers here but I had to at least try. Strawberries from the store are just not much good. I'm jealous.

Our rhubarb is ready, so we will be looking for some strawberries for some strawberry-rhubarb pies. Ours will have to come from south of us for another month or so.

Enjoy those berries. Ours haven't even bloomed yet. Nothing like eating them right out in the patch. My wife keeps telling me I should wash them first since there might be bug do on them or a little dust. Tell her I've eaten them that way since I was old enough to pick berries and no obvious adverse effects yet so no probably won't change my habits. Our rhubarb is probably big enough to pick some. Maybe rhubarb crisp or cream pie sounds good. Mom used to make sauce with  a little tapioca to thicken it. Grandma said it was a good spring tonic.

I decided to 'rescue ' MY rhubarb plants from next door before the new house got built.....
...transplanted them into the strawberry patch beside the garage. Both seem to enjoy the spot ! Hoping for at least one stra-rhu pie  this year......
