Been a hectic week, and very stressful. Making progress on the clean-up and having power/internet, thought I'd post some pics of the mayhem. Most of my Orange things got through this intact. The 185 has a wall leaning on it and got some sheet-metal damage I think. Combine, (red) took the brunt of the leaning wall. It will need an unloading auger and probably a little more. The house was spared and the smaller buildings. Machine shed is a total loss. Didn't get a picture of the corn on the camera I use for this site, it's FLAT.

Sorry to see you lost your shed. Hang in there, we'll all get through this. Our buildings got very little damage. The whole yard looks like this. There is WD in the photo.

Mike, you got hit pretty hard. That is a big mess to clean up not to mention rebuilding and repairing damaged buildings. Hope the Feds will come in quickly with help for all of the farmers affected by this. Be careful out there and stay safe.

Thanks for the good thoughts guys, I do appreciate it. Jaybmiller; you are right "stuff" can be repaired/replaced and everyone is fine, that's good. plummerscarin; interesting way to cook hotdogs! Did you disinfect first? Shamless; I'll keep that in mind, a road trip to get parts would be a nice diversion about now! After 7 days with the chainsaws and the 6080 I'm getting back close to (the new) normal. Sat**day my uncle and a good friend helped, much faster than trying to do it all yourself. Sunday those two were back and my cousin and his son helped too. I can't say enough good about the cousin, he brought his new case skidsteer and hauled logs/brush for hours. I will bet having him and that machine there took two or three days off the job! I'm heading out there soon to continue, will take some updated pics. Hopefully an adjuster gets here sometime this week and I can start getting things out of that white barn.

Sorry you have to put up with all the trouble. One positive thing is that you could always build a bigger machine shed...

This one is near me. There used to be 4 bins there. Only a couple years old. Don't know what happened to the 4th one. The shed door blew in and buckled the end wall then blew out the side wall. Typical of damage in the storm path. I'm told the winds hit 130mph.

The storm has affected a huge area! My thoughts and prayers to all in its path.
Looking at these pictures and thinking of damage to the crops, downed by winds, farmsteads damaged, thinking what else can go wrong! |

Not related to the storm, but the bins.

That corn fared better than others. Was on a street south of Cedar Rapids that runs north/south. The field on the west side laid flat and dying. Field on right side in much better condition. Can't explain that other than variety, planting date, or overall health of that field

Had a damage assessment done today by a man sent by my insurance company. He is up from Texas to help with the work load. He said he had never seen a damage path like this before even though he regularly covers hurricane damage

I know the feeling of seeing another AC transformer taken out of service. Back then the transformer oil in them had PCB's in it. Bad stuff, hope they cleaned the ground up.

Ted, I did not need any more 'firewood'. I cut up some of the walnut in burnable size pieces in the early going. There was so much wood down that we just started cutting it in logs and made a pile to be dealt with later. Only saved walnut, hackberry, amd one elm for future burning. All the silver maple went in the burn pile. Several tons of it I'm sure. I'm starting to get caught up but will be busy until the snow flies, pretty sure. Starter took a crap in the combine the day we tore down the barn around it. Got a replacement from a buddy, it was for a tractor, they mount differently. Turns out they won't start spinning backwards! They are fun to change too! Original starter now at the local repair shop, will hopefully get the one in there back out today.

It's been 11 years since a tornado hit my place and I still feel the pain your going through in the clean up process. You are still here and your stuff can be replaced or fixed. You will come out of this and it'll be ok. Just keep praying for strength.

WOW that is bad. I am north of Indianola and did not get near the wind you got. Maybe 80 mph or less, just a lot of sticks to pickup. There are some big branches broken as I drive around. We did see a show of sparks and big booms. The wind was blowing the tree branches into the power lines (going to neighbors house) on the west side of our property. It finally blew the fuse on the power pole. We never lost power.

Dennis, there seems to be no end to the sticks that can be picked up! I have mowed about 1/3 of the yard that was cleaner, still had to drive around some I missed.
