Hey all, I have been looking all summer for a decent WD for my 2 row mounted corn picker, and I might have found one. Tell me what you think and if its worth it based on my description....

This I believe is a 1950 WD narrow front. It has been repainted and the paint is not that bad at all, there are some cracks on the back fenders where the bondo is cracking, but the rest of the metal looks to be in really good shape except for the front grill, which is dented in pretty good. But the front grill could be banged back out and look decent.

Two of the rims are questionable, where the rust has ate away the rim around the valve stem, but is holding air good right now, one front rim and one back. The tires are weather checked but are in fair condition and would work fine for me.

It is missing the water temp gauge, it has been converted to 12 volt (alternator) and the battery box is definetly not orginal. The muffler also needs to be replaced. The brakes also need replaced.

Alright, here are the two things I am concerned about. The tractor will not engage in 3 or 4th gear, and seems to be on the sloppy side. Is this a big job to rebuild the shifter? Do you think this is the problem? The other gears all engage and operate fine.

The other issue is that it seemed to run good, but had a couple times where she  sounded like it was missing on one cylinder. Other than that, it only smoked when the owner choked it to start the tractor.

I know this is a brief description, and you can't see what I saw tonight, but based on this, is the tractor worth $550?

Thanks! Don

Hey Don,

I remember you looking for a decent WD/WD 45.

You know, you can probably get that 550 back on selling just the engine, and you'd still make 200 - 250 in scrap metal on the rest. Not a kind way to look at it, but...

thik it is worth it got $500 for my dads 10 years ago. not running with a cracked block and very bad tires. There was oin by Oshkosh with asickle belly mower the guy was asking $850 not running tires where rotted off plug wires were gone. Any tractor running is worth $550 unless it is a Ford 8N.
Play the game for more than you can afford to lose... only then will you learn the game.
