Does a security camera system exist that does not require Wi-Fi to work? Since my mig welder got stolen from my shed a few weeks ago I’ve been looking to install some cameras. My shed is three quarters of a mile from my house, so there is no Wi-Fi there. I’m just looking for something low tech that will record motion and maybe a spot light as a deterrent. Everything I see online has to have Wi-Fi.

We have an Arlo camera at the farm and I really like it. No Wi-Fi. Uses a SIM card with a data plan from our cell phone carrier. The data plan is $20/month and it's well worth it. Has a motion sensor that, when triggered, takes a minimum 10 second video and alerts my phone of motion. It's capable of telling the difference in vehicles, people, and animals. Has a light that comes on at night to help with recording. Well worth the money I believe. I think we paid around $250 for the camera. Has to be charged every so often. I think ours went about 40 days on the initial charge. We've had ours up about 2 months and caught 2 people at the farm that weren't supposed to be there

I have two Lorex systems and they will work with, or without wifi. They run constantly and will record just over a month before they begin to rewrite over old information. This can be extended, or shortened depending upon the resolution you set the cameras to record at. I use the 4K setting, (high resolution) and get just over three full weeks of history running four cameras on my home system.

There's all kinds of security camera systems that stand alone, and record video on a hard drive... as long as you have power, and can string coax or network cables between camera and the DVR unit, they'll work fine. That being said, you might wanna be able to observe from your home. IF you have a spot where you can get line-of-sight from the remote to your home, a pair of wi-fi antennas and two inexpensive rounters configured in bridge mode, will bring your home network out to that location, and you can connect the DVR unit's LAN port to the bridge, and have the ability to view real-time, and review recorded events, from home.

I use trail cameras. have caught several thieves that way so far. make sure you place them high enough they can't rip them down. also...a local gas station got some kinda security camera set up from HF, when the place got robbed one night, the Cops said that was the best camera footage they had ever looked at, said it was better than most banks have! and yes they did catch the thief!

I have yet to see bank security picture that was half as good as average game camera gives. Many times I wonder why they bother to have the local news run the footage it is so bad.
The church here has installed doorbell ring cameras at the pre school my daughter runs for the church. I don't know if wifi or cel phone powered but she gets notification on her cel phone. She has the ability to talk to them if she wants to. She can also record the incidences or conversations she has with the homeless who are hanging around. I guess word has spread through the community of the homeless. No were near the bewildered looks and expirations as when they were new. Probably good Ol ![]() ![]() By the way shameless as the statute of limitations rolls around, we could use some more stories to liven this place up.

Codger and others... see if i got this straight... I dont have a SMART phone.. dont want a message ( maybe my wife could use it)... i just want to RECORD when something happens..
I take it i could mount a couple cameras inside the barn facing the doors and then would send a SIGNAL to a DVD BOX inside the house ? And they would record either FULL TIME, or come on with MOTION ? .... and i could plug the DVD BOX into a monitor in the house and WATCH the past few days of what happened, or watch REAL TIME ? Are the control buttons on the DVD BOX to run the monitor, or do you plug into the HOUSE COMPUTER and control the DVD and monitor ? .... If it records a couple weeks of data, how do i SKIP to something happening on the tape ? Maybe thats why it only turns on with MOTION ? Would it be best to have a MOTION LIGHT turn on also to get better pictures and SHOO people away ? .................. I have been thinking about this for some time.. Was considering a game camera.. but you have to collect it or take out the SIMS Card to see the photos ( remember, no cell phone)......... i do have POWER in the shop and WI-FI in the house / computer.

I sure don't know a lot about the doorbell camera deal, but they are cheap and all over the place. I believe it is more cel service than wifi but don not really know. Yes my daughter has a smart phone. I think it gets recorded the same as a call, or text, what ever that gets sent to the device.
If you had one in your shop it sets your phone off with motion, it gives a verbal message to you that there is activity at camera X or what ever you name it. At which time you can ignore, watch, or respond and say "dirt bag" get out while you can. I believe it records all this automatically, and you delete the same as other messages. The camera quality is very good no light is needed just like the game cameras. The message of activity can go to multiple phones all at the same time. |
