I went and picked up a styled WC today. Looked at serial number when I went to look at it last Sunday and it is a 1945. Got it home today and cleaned the numbers off too double check them and the serial number is Swc148082. Can any one tell me what the S means? I don't know what it means, I am fairly new to this. I am learning from my dad (and my dad is not sure about the S himself) and every one on this great forum .

Show us a picture of it. I would bet it's a welded steel differential housing made during the war but the S is supposed to be on the right following the last digit in the serial number.

The S is for steel rearend in the wartime tractors but it is usually after the serial # instead of before.

Probably the pressed steel rear end. Does it look like the first tractor in this link?

Looks like somebody got S happy. It is a "war time" steel welded differential houosing with an extra S in front of the WC.
