Settled the estate this morning, 6080 and 185 are now officially mine! I have always used them, (and maintained them) like they were mine, now they are! That is a great feeling!

Congratulations on getting the tractors, that got to be a relief for you. The AC 185 and 6080 good looking tractors in your pictures. Question, how does the AC 6080 tractor handle a plow compare to the AC 185 ?

Thanks guys!

Tom, I haven't plowed with the 6080 enough to give a good answer. There are so many nuances to moldboard plowing and what little I've done with the 6080 the plow probably wasn't set as well as it could have been.

Kenny, don't feel bad. I was in your part of the state a couple weeks ago and didn't have tome to stop. Really would have liked to though.

Thanks replying back. It kinda of neat having a AC 185 and then having the AC 6080 tractor that is what Allis Chalmers replacement for the 185.

Crap! Wasn't aware of that one, did I miss anything good? Went to one close to Pella Saturday. Stood out in the wind for 4 hours, spent $10! There was  a WD 45 that did not start, brought $1600!! I think that was the only thing Allis.

IBWF Mike, Congratulations! Those are two awesome AC tractors. I like both their engine sounds when they get loaded up. 185’s 301 has a great 6 cylinder lull & 6080’s 433I’s turbo can impress.
That deep black Iowa soil turned over behind 185’s plow looks sweet too.
Condolences about the estate.

Thanks! It is a little interesting to have one model and the next one that replaced it. The way that happened; Dad bought the 6080 new in '84. I was a senior in high school then. Fast forward to 2010, Dad was looking for a disc mower, (which he never got bought) Found the 185 at the local Case IH dealer. He knew the tractor, had belonged to a buddy of his, Russel S., for a long time. He bought it. I later found out that Howard Dunnick had been the original owner. Lets say this tractor has had a very pampered life!

I really like hearing stories and history of tractors and equipment, the reason a person or if a family tractor why their father or other family members brought a certain tractor or things that happen leading to the purchase.
Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Tom. I had to put a set of batteries in the old girl the day I took it plowing. I was the one that put the previous ones in, didn't realize it had been 11 years! Felt pretty good about the life of them. Probably been five years ago I replaced the ones in the 6080. Never-ending battle trying to keep batteries in everything!

Mike, batteries are a pain to keep charged up and maintain, also expensive. In the two tractors I used often I buy good batteries for them. I got two other tractors ( sixty plus years old ) I working on to get running, I almost running and the other needs a lot of work to it. I brought cheap Wal Mart battery for the one almost running. Was the AC 6080 your father brought new was that his big tractor at that time ?

Tom, yes, the 6080 was the big gun for many years. At some point, he bought his first 185. It had a cab, year around maybe? No air conditioning. He thought he was tough enough to sit in there and run a big round baler! Turns out he wasn't. He then bought a 4230 JD, it became the bailing tractor and big one too. At some point he decided he didn't need the 185 and let it go. He lamented this for quite awhile and when this 185 came along he jumped on it and I'm really glad he did.

I was never a fan of the 4230, didn't matter what you did with the toe-in, that stupid thing wandered going down the road! Drove me nuts. It and the baler went down the road after the deracio. Interesting thing about selling it is i made a friend in the process. Great guy, used to do auctions in the Indianola Ia. area.

Apparently, people in my family didn't take pictures of machinery because I can find none. Would really love to find some pics of the 175 like the day it showed up and the new tracks in the snow. Not holding my breathe.
