While perusing some old service bulletines tonight, I ran across one that was for remediing the old key switch from stying in start position when starting the tractor. The nylon will get dirt in it and then won't release which allows the starter to keep running and over-speed. The "fix" was to put a push button switch in the cigerrette lighter hole that was in the dash.
In all the years I never seen the early D17 have a push button switch in them, and I have seen othe modifications to the switches and dashes but not this 'fix'.
I converted the 170 over to key switch start and always wondered why they didn't come from the factory that way except thought maybe for a safety reason.

Just courious, ever see any push button starts on early D17?

my d17 has a push button & it used to freeze up or get dirt in it.I just drilled hole out & put newer style push button. the old one had a rubber boot over it that was torn & it kept freezing in winter. it came from factory that way
