I had to pull the engine in my WD and replace the rear main. When I bolted the clutch and pressure back on teh flywheel, I wasn't sure I was getting the clutch lined up exactly in center, but I got as close as I could. On Chevy 350 clutches, I got a splined tool to help line up everything. Now, I have the engine almost in, but it won't go the last 1/2 inch. I even have the four bolts started in teh bell housing, but it won't go one bit further. Is it likely my clutch wasn't lined up preventing the transmission shaft from going ahead and going into the pilot bearing? If so, what can I do to fix this? I got underneath and loosened up teh pressure plate bolts hoping it would allow teh clutch plate to move to align everything, but that didn't work. The splined trans. shaft is already into the clutch plate, but probably not the pilot bearing. Any one had experience with this?

take a piece of flat steel and drill four holes that alingn to the rocker arm and valve cover studs . fix a lifting lug in the center of the plate . lift the motor with it . it will lift level. that sounds like youre promblem is the motors not exactly level or its tilted to one side.

You can get wood input shaft replicas at auto parts stores,clutch disc has to lined up,may only be 1/8 inch off.

I've got the input shaft out of a WC that I use to center the clutch plate when I'm putting them back together. I've got a couple extras floating around, but they are heavy to ship. If you'd like, I'll go see how light I can make one. Shoot me a PM if interested.

I also just did this with the gleaner i'm installing. I found a deepwell socket that fit in the clutch disk socket perfectly. I used this to make sure the clutch disk was right in the center and then tightened the pressure plate. Engine went right in. Same as using the input shaft, although that is the tool you would need if ya did this a lot.
