24V can be two 12v batteries in series or four 6V in series, I have two group 31 12V batteries in my 7G they have a cross strap at the + of one battery to the - of the other making one large 24V battery. Mine is + ground, the - cable of one battery goes to the starter solenoid and the + of the other battery goes to ground.

Right and I did hook two twelve volt batteries in series to bench test the starter the shaft turned about a 1/4 rotation both batteries were fully charged the post I read on this Web site said it was a 24 volt starter powered by 2 24 volt batteries never heard   of a system being hooked up like this? Anybody have a manual that confirms this? I just bought this machine a week ago don't
Know much about it HD 6 is about the only thing I could make out on the data plate. The blade set up looks like an HD 5 any ideas on a possible year? New to a/c any info would be helpful thank you!

All the ones I had had 2 12 volt batteries. I might have a starter left over for 1 if you need it.
