Need some expert advice from y'all. Need to maintain a natural road about 1/2 mile long. Bush hogging about twice a year. Spreading gravel in wet spots, spreading rip rap, hauling out trees (small, and large cut-up). May have to have a backhoe attachment for drainage repairs. Removing light snow. This trail runs from 900 ft sea level to 1100 feet in 1/2 mile (several switchbacks). Can't get a truck down it. What would be a better choice- skid steer, or 4x4 tractor??? The boy just bought a BobCat T190 with tracks. Has about 60 HP and weighs almost 8000 pounds. That thing will walk right thru a forest of 2-3 inch trees in nothing flat. Hauls gravel, hard to get stuck.... pretty much a mean machine. We had a 50 HP backhoe/loader that works real good on ditches and moving some dirt/ gravel ... but the little BobCat spins on a dime and can walk up the side of a cliff. ------------- Like them all, but love the "B"s. |

Next question what's the budget ? Skid steer have a lot of uses but one is not long travel - for that a tractor would be best, but for maneuverability in close quarters skid steer wins . Attachments can be obtained for both compact tractor and skid loaders to do many jobs . Koeckeritz Iron & Steel |

| I would think the skid steer would be better they really have some nut to them for their size and do quite good on fuel. Plus i think they are a little more comfortable and quieter to run than a tractor. Also in the event of a role over you are much more protected in a skid steer. |

| The t series bobcats are mean machines and v other tracked skidloaders the bobcat will go anywhere without piping the track off of. Verry versital but depending on the budget you may want a 4x4 loader tractor. But being switch backs and such I'd rather be strapped into a decent skidsteer wheeled or tracked. |

Thanks! Not much travel, just the .4 mile road. Several locations where it gets fairly muddy with runoff. Budget @ 15000$. Should be able to get a decent low hr wheeled steer for that price and throw some steel tracks on it. They sure make a wide assortment of attachments for these things. Grapples, scissor tree cutters, back hoe, augers, ditchers, brooms, mowers, also a neat grapple that lifts a log-cuts it with a chain saw-then pushes the cut piece through a splitter. | If your going to buy a tractor to use in the field with crops that fine otherwise buy a nice skidloader. I am amazed at how many farmers or people with small acres don't have one. I bought a 40 horsepower mustang 6 years ago. best snow removal machine ive ever seen. you may want to get a bigger one that mine for what you need but youll never be sorry that you did. Just have to make sure you keep it properly maintained. for your budget you should be able to get a larger one with a cab and heat. always remember Haste makes Waste so take your time. just my 2 cents. norm |

So, got a great deal on this little JD2305 with 300hrs a yr ago. FEL
and backhoe, 4wd hydrostatic, 54"deck etc. Easy to trailer. Tiny
turning radius. The little 23hp diesel is an animal- will haul a one ton
tree easily. Great for grading and also trenched 250 feet for gutter
drainage hoses. Low center of gravity, and fits through a 7' tall

| buy the skid loader for the summer work, get yourself a 3/4 ton pickup and blade for the snow removal. have moved snow for 30 years with skid loader, WILL have blade for truck before I retire next Aug. |

Consider a TL130, Takeuchi=turn key and run even if it has 3,000 hours on it. Retains high resale value |
