I repowered a 720, with a 24 horesepower Kohler Magnum engine for a friend of mine.
I made all the mounts myself, and it has turned out great.
Recently, he had me hook up the rear pto, which I hadn't originally done, so he could use a rear mounted tiller.
He couldn't find the original rear pto clutch, so I found one on Michaels Tractors web site, and bought one there. It came from the same size simplicity tractor, as the 720.
Everything seemed to work great.
My friend hooked up his 48 inch tiller to it, to try it out.
He made almost 1 full pass, only going about 1/2 deep, and the clutch started to smoke, and before he stopped, it had gotten super hot, and fried the clutch.
I don't believe this should have happened. The engine didn't bog down, nor was he going too fast.
Is there something I may have missed.
Is there an adjustment, air gap, or whatever I may not have did?
He has since found the original rear pto, and now I'm going to install it.
I don't want the same thing happening, so if there is someone out there who can advise me of the dos and don'ts of installing it, please advise.
I'm open to any suggestions.
