I recently bought a D15 that needs some TLC, one issue it has is the rear lift only works when it wants to. One day it works the next it refuses to work at all. I have checked the fluid and it seems to have water in it, I assume that is part of the problem. When I drain the fluid I want to check the pump and valve to see if all is well. Is the hydraulics the front reservoir or the rear? They both seem to have water in the oil. I am guessing the pump is above the plate bolted on the bottom of the tractor just in front of where the shifter is, making the front reservoir the hydraulics. Any help, pictures or links to manuals would be great. THANKS! Ben |

Hyd fluid dipstick is in front of gas tank, right side (not the carb side). Drain is under the hydraulic pump, left side, under the pto lever. Use any universal hytran fluid. Differing series of this tractor, have different internal sealing. Early series (round muffler, no thumb guard on the hi-lo lever) have 2 dipsticks, for the hyd fluid, the one mentioned above, and one to the left and under the dash area, (top of transmission)and these 2 compartments are individually sealed. Later model series 2, the compartments are united (no seals between them), have both dipsticks, but you can read either.

Mine is a series 2, and has a button on the hi/lo lever. I saw the spot on the right side that looked like it might be a fill, but mine has what looks like a vent there. It has a vented dipstick and one that looks like a big bolt(with a dipstick) down by the shifter. those both show full, but the hyd is sluggish. I will go further inspect the third spot you mentioned. |

ALL D15 have the dip stick and fill for hydraulic pump under fuel tank. The two below the dash near the gearshift are trans. and PD. The front dipstick is PD. The rear most dipstick is trans.
The drain plug for the hydraulics is on the pan that covers the pump, where the TB linkage hooks. MACK

| Power director compartment and front hyd compartment are united, on a series 2 tractor. I did not say that series 2 tractors have a button at the top of the hi-lo lever. Both series have the button, I said series 2 tractors have a thumb guard, that surrounds front and side of the button. |

| Power Director oil is to the left of the dashboard when sitting in the seat. The hydraulic oilis under the right side of the fuel tank. D-15's NEVER ever had those two compartments joined as one. |

When I walked out to the tractor I saw what you mean. I have the thumb guard. My VIN is 17385

| Hi fellas, I seem to have this same problem and after reading all your posts and checking everything mentioned I still have the slow lift issue. Is there an internal filter or screen or something else that would cause this. I will mention that it worked fine when I parked it for the winter and it has done this in the past and started working again until now. Any help would be great! |

| No, I don't think a 15 ever had a screen. I would guess it might have a plunger stuck or check valve springs broken. Best to pull it out and check it over. MACK |

| I had Dad's old series 2 D-15 apart this Winter and there were two screens. One between the sump and the bottom of the torque housing and one at the pumps inlet. Might be a s/n related change, but we had screens in ours. |
