I have a second stage buda 344 engine in my HD6E and would like to put an AC 7000 turbo charged 344 cubic inch military surplus motor in it. The blocks look identical with different attachments. Can anyone advise me of the ins and outs of this swap.

I,m lookin at doing that. So far, I can see I need to swap sump, flywheel and housing, timing gear housing. To get accessory drive for fan, dont yet know if drive in front of American Bosch pumps can be used with the Roosa pump on the military engine, or I gotta use the Ambosh fuel system to make it all work

I was trying to find a crank for my HD344 but people that have them seem to think they are made of gold. I can buy a complete running 7000-344 cubic inch for less but I do have some concerns about the accessory drive and the fuel system. I am working to solve this puzzle before I spend the money for the 7000.

The 516 engine in HD11 tractors is same as 344 with two more cylinders. The second series of wet steer HD11 had Roosa pumps with accessory drive for fan. I,m just not sure if you can swap the fan drive off the American Bosch setup to Roosa. If you could just get a fan drive off one of those Roosa pumped HD11 tractors, would not have to worry about interchangability

I had previously been told that the 344 Buda engine and the later 6000 sereis engine used the same crankshaft.  This should be fairly easily confirmed by checking part numbers ( AC did a complete  part number change somewwhere along  the way, so that needs to be factored in). Good luck.

I have checked the crank casting numbers for the 6000/7000 344 cubic inch motors and have found them to be the same. I think I will go ahead on the surplus 7000 motor and if it doesn't bolt in I will at least have a crank I can use for a reasonable price. Any input about  is appreciated .Confused

The casting number on this hd 344 is 4348425. Crankshaft application sheet shows additional numbers 43448399 & 434525 for this crankshaft. The 344 ci 6000 allis chalmers gives the following numbers, which should fit the 344 buda. The dimensions are the same.
4354423, 4354426, 4357331,4359794, 4359796, 4359873 & 435987. It needs to clean up at 0.020 or if necessary I can get 0.030 bearings.
Thanks for your input
