1951 Allis Chalmers WD Puller
Posted in Tractor of the Week at 12:00PM on 06/07/2010
Here is the first pulling tractor to be our Tractor of the Week here at KRVN.com. Thanks to Mark Hamel for the picuture of their puller.
This tractor was the 2009 NATPA Division IV National Champion in the 3500 lb Class and 2nd in the 3750 lb Class. It also made the cover of The Hook Magazine in 2006 with Mark's nephew, Justin Hamel at the wheel. The other picture is of his brother Jesse with the WD.
Mark's brother Kurt built the motor that turned it into a champion. He also builds motors for antique pullers all over the U.S. This tractor is a good example of his handiwork with the powerplant turning out over 140 h.p.! Mark says the motor started with 226 cubic inches at 50 h.p. and it now has 400 cubic inches. Wow, that is certainly quite a jump in power!
Thanks Mark and to the rest of your pulling team for the entry this week. The Hamel's also have another puller. We will feature the D-17 Allis at a later date so stay tuned!
For a closer look, click on the pictures below. Send your tractor to the addresses above!

Naaaaa. Another post where there's proof and pics... he won't stick around for long. Neat post tho... I haven't talked to Kurt In years. I wonder what ever happened to him. I'm pretty sure the bores were 4.60 with the short big chief pistons. I'll try to remember what else he told me.

i talked several times with kurt back in the days he used a 6 inch stroke 4 5/8 bore like tarbill did back in the day with shortened H rods. with a six inch stroke piston speed in feet per minute is the same as engine rpm. If you talk to don and dan or brandan karpel you will find a 4.750 by 6.250 memebers on this site as well has been around just as long. 140 hp is easily got out of a 4.65 bore by 5.8 stroke like the dr. , barney or jt richardson ran years ago as well . D17 brown also runs around 430 inches . There was a full blown build of kurts in hook magazine back before the buy out as well. the reason most use a big chief bbc piston is its a off the shelve 4.625 bore. These are good articles of what you small cubic inch boys are possibly going to run up against if you pull outside your home town. a lot of large inch motors have been sold or complete tractors since antiques hay day. look at the wheel speed the big inch motors getting .
