We've just had a round of hydraulic problems with cavatation. The solution seems to have been in the o-rings on the suction side - including the one under the suction strainer cover, as it wasn't leaking oil.

But the real watch - when we had it stripped down to get the pump out for inspection we found the rear U-joint was missing the needle rollers out of one cap and had badly worn the yoke. It is a pain to see and grease. And our parts supplier remarked

"Just as well you found that. If they let go they usually take out the front cover of the transmission".

Parts availability? There are two sizes of cap (49 and 47.5mm) and they had two for ours in stock. And a new hydraulic pump.

My FD5 sheared the bolts on the steering clutch hub - after they came loose somehow - and in the process blew the "O" ring out on the oil filled clutch housing . 2 week wait for local so called dealer to order in the "O" ring and a price of $20.00 .

Went to a supplier i use to use for industrial gaskets , seals, and O rings , they have minimum order but were able to match me up 2 SAMPLE rings to try, at no cost.

Nice to have companies that can and will help out.

Coke,

When I asked the case-hardened diesel bloke who pointed me at this dozer the second question was

"What about parts"

The answer was

"Boy (Firm name) - plenty of them and cheap".

And so it seems still - around a week from Italy if you need it, and this has worked for some obscure parts that I thought I'd need to fire up my lathe for.
