Can anyone tell me if a 190XT Gas engine would anyway shape or form fit into a D17? How much horsepower do you think a D17 running gear hold up to? There is a couple of Oliver 88's in our area with 1850 gas engines ruling the roost in the 4500lb to 7500lb open classes. I would like to see a D17 on steriods get their attention:) Thanks for any info!

There is a WD45 running a Turbo 301 pushing over 100 hp locally that has had no issues with the rear end. It did shear an axle though.

Is there alot of difference between the D19 gas engine and the 190xt 301 gas engine?

Huge difference between the 262 gas and a 301. We've covered this topic before and for the money I'd get a combine adapter and drop in a Chevy 292 as there's lots of mods available and they make tons of power.

Now you 're getting my attention! It is going to have to be pretty beefy as I know these Olivers are starting out with a 90+hp gas engine out of an 1850 and then port/polishing the head, one is even stroked with defferent cam, so I know probably well into the mid 100hp range anyway. I'm know stranger to making horsepower on the GM Big Block V8 side but the buzzn half dozen I 'm just starting to get my feet wet!..

A chevy 292 is probably 140-150 h.p. Stock. Only problem I see is rpm's the 292 makes that kind of power at a lot higher rpms that the oliver 1850 engines your talking about.

Cam should take care of the rpm/hp issue with the 292. Just need a grind to help with low end torque. I'd just build a stout 226 or 262 to stay all orange.

A 292 chevy is still disadvantaged against the cubic inches you can get out of the oliver.then theres the red diamond 500 inch for the ih. A stroked 426 converted to alky would be the engine that got the rules changed.

Allis had that tractor from the factory, they called it a 180, Ya I know its a 265 but wondering if a 180 chasis plus a 301 and d17 sheetmetal would be a easier/better route?

I agree about the cubes if those Olivers are as big as the outlaw Olivers around these parts.

I have gave some serious thoughts on upsetting the rules some.the 426 should or since combines had v8 chevies a person could get around the no v8 clause by milling one bank off a a 632in bbc to make a stought little four banger or just put the big oliver wakeshau in the allis since they were purchased and merged.

butch...the 180 diesels are 301 so it will definatly bolt up a gasser
