I have a 5bottom 70 series stereble wheel plow that had the bottoms removed. It had slaught bottoms. I remember a 190 xt gas pulled it easy. I just bought an xt gas and want to put bottoms back just for a plowday rig. Does a slaught pull easier than a solled molboard, What number bottoms would i be looking for. It use to lay sod like a ribbon. If you got a lot of clay then slat bottom helps. Used to be a lot of slat bottom plows around here way back. Scrappers got most. Brother has a 3 bottom somewhere on the farm. Most any bottom of the right width (and the 70 frames can be bolted together for two widths) will fit. I think bottoms and for sure shares were chosen for the soil and the available horsepower. Some had longer moldboards for smoother rolling, some where shorter and twisted faster. Some bottoms show as many as a dozen shares for a given width, made of different materials and shaped differently. Some like chilled iron wear best, until they hit a rock. Some have a longer nose to dig in better. Today the modern 387 bottoms have more parts available aftermarket than any others. Slatted bottoms were used mostly for very sticky soil that stays together with little support. They would be poor in sandy soil letting much of the sand slip through between the slats. One place to study the possible bottoms is in the bottoms manual that you can download from http://www.grandpastractor.com/phpBB3/index.php That manual dates from 1968. There are newer editions but I've only seen one on the counter of a current AGCO dealer. Gerald J. |

Are the frogs still on it, or was it stripped completely? I'd say the solid 387 bottoms are going to be the easiest to find parts for. Shoup and other have moldboards, shares, shins and landsides avalible. An XT should handle 5 - 16's just about anywhere. ------------- AGCO My Allis Gleaner Company |

Dave in il almost anywhere my xt with new firestones filled and wheel weights and cab had a hard time with 4-16 allis 2000 series im from sw pa lots of limestone and limestone/clay here it will make the 7045 with the same plow work hard. Shawn ------------- 190XT,D17and 7045 |
