My Dad is having problems with the governors on his D17, he had to replace the weights in the governors and now they will not regulate correctly. Would anyone have a copy of the parts diagram for these that can be e-mailed? Thanks |

Another question as I was not in on the tear down or installation when this was repaired. Does the thrust bearing go into the fork or does it just ride against the fork? I am taking by the drawing that the bearing goes into the fork. Thanks |

Sometimes you have to adjust the length of the linkage between the carb and the governor control arm to get the best engine responce. ------------- Jack of all trades, master of none |

He's having trouble with it wanting to runaway at idle. If you just bump the throttle up off the lowest setting the engine will just keep running faster. Seems everything is there and installed but with that said it seems the forks are not riding on the thrust bearing firm enough. We are stumped. |

He has the sleeve on so as the bearing slides on from the radiator side, so I would say that is correct. |

| Let me rephrase what I wrote........the largest diameter part of the thrust brg assembly goes up against the governor weights (rearward) and the ball bearing (smallest end) goes towards the front against the fork tips. If this is correct, I can't understand what has changed so much that it doesn't work at all. The governor weights are free aren't they ???? they should be able to drop by gravity on their own and cannot bind at all. Next, you need to "synch" the governor linkage to the carb linkage. Engine off, pull hand throttle down to about half-way, remove cotter pin to the carb link rod just behind the generator, and pull out the link rod from the vertical governor arm. The link rod should just slide back into the hole without moving the vertical arm. Bend the carb link rod in the middle to shorten it if you need too. This linkage should move very freely front to back with no binding or rubbing on anything. A shot of oil on each end is fine. |

Tom: Thanks for posting the pictures, looks the same and the bearing is installed correctly. He did not replace the fork so it may be worn and need resurfaced and ground.
I will forwrd these to him for a look.
