I hauled home a 67 190XT last month. I knew it was a gear jumper when i bought it so i wasnt surprised. I had a leaky radiator so i had to get it fixed before i was really able to test drive the tractor. Had it out this afternoon and found it jumps 3-4 and 5-6. I checked jumping by putting in gear and reving engine up and down to load and unoad the tranny. Do i also need to get on a decline and let gravity push tractor to check other shifts?
This was a loader tractor so i was expecting the worst, but it doesnt seem to jump reverse. you guys that have done this, how big of a job did you feel it was? Are the parts available form AGCO? How many children will i have to sell to buy parts? Is the problem usually in the splines on the gear or in the sliding coupler?
Im no stranger to large projects, but still curious as to what to expect. I am splurging for the AC manual not an IT. Im debating on tearing into it or saving some cash first lol.

Just had the one in my 67 XT fixed. Most of it comes from a lot of wear on the bearings in the transmission. Input shaft would move up and down and loses contact with the gears it meshes with. There was one shaft I had to buy, but got off lucky. I got it from A&I parts - probably much cheaper than AGCO. But I got all the other bearings and seals from AGCO. My mechanic did the work and rebuilt the rear end at the same time. Hard to put a price on it since other things were done to it at the same time. Also depends if you are doing the work yourself. Things are packed in that transmission case pretty tight... PS: never heard of reverse jumping. You will also want to check for wear in your shift linkage.

i was thinking shift collars were the problem and since it was a loader tractor i thought reverse would jump also. ill have to work on the shifter also it is sloppy and yes i will be doing all the work

Tbran had good advise on this one time, something about get everything tight as possible on the shafts with a sized snap ring, also worn gears , collars etc
