Fired up the D17 SIV diesel this afternoon and moved it in the barn.  Had the LH side brakes out in less than 30 minutes....nice and oily so it came apart the easiest of all of them. Looks like someone had replaced the bands not too long ago, but the springs were mia and the drums are worn. I haven't used this tractor much at all because the brakes locked up all the time and the 3pt cylinders shot oil all over the place....have some good 185 cylinders to put on it, so hopefully it will turn into one of my main tractors. I love the sound of  that 6 cylinder.

Bought it as a high clearance
Now looks like this

It's also getting a different seat and 170 finals....and 18.4 x 28's on the back. I'd like to put some 9.5L-15's on the front, but I don't have any 6 bolt hubs - front knees are from a  Series I that I parted. Might try to see if I have a bearing combo to put the 170 hubs on it.

They are definitely one of the sweetest running engines around, right up there with the 301.

Always wondered if a D17 would do better and 15.5x38
