newbie here sharing pictures of my project  of what i believe to be a 48' B  it sat like this for ten years after the sale of the farm was in running condition when it left but needed a ring gear                

 couldn't believe that 3 of the 4 tires still had air in them                  


 drained what seemed like 3 gallons of water from inside the engine as the exhaust was left uncovered 

Still in process of tearing it apart 

No surprise as to what i found 


I guess my question is as ive some people talk about rebuild kits.. are they all the same  because the prices seem to differ as much as $200 and as  a  student i am not looking to spend a ton of money  but i also dont want to do this again. Also what muffler is this suppose to have on it ? Can i have the holes in  exhaust manifold welded shut? they are not very big?

Welcome to the board. On rebuild kits yes there is differances in them, I will let someone else reccomend what one is the best. I'm not very fimaliar with the B's. Your holes on the exaust manifold, can be welded but are you sure you want to. If they are there from the factory why would you want to?

      Guess i should have clarified the "Rust holes"  in the top half of the exhaust manifold. There not to big and id like to save myself from buying a new manifold

Exhaust manifolds get thin and develop small holes in the thin spots, they can be welded if there is something to weld to and you understand cast iron welding. It is likly that it is to thin and it may not work out.

If it is rust holes I wouldn't try, I'm not saying that it can't be done, but I feel it wouldn't be worth the time when you can buy a aftermarket for around $100.00.

If you are paying a welding shop to weld it, you're wasting time and money. If you think you can weld it and your time isn't work much, give it a try. I bought a nice original manifold needing a data plate for $3 at an auction last year. I plan to mill it flat and find a data plate so I can use it on my B.

I believe you have an allis c with a wide front. The draw bar in the picture with it on the trailer seems to look like a c. I could be wrong tho. As for the manifold, don't waste your time or money trying to weld up the holes in it. Just get another one. They aren't hard to fine and don't cost that much. I may have one I could sell u. Looks like it has potential. Wish I had it.

Sure looks like a C to me too. What is the tractor number stamped next to the shifter. Unless it has been assembled from more than one original, I bet it starts with C.

Does the wide front C steering arm point down out of the steering gear like a B or up like a CA?   Tim

I have a 49 B  and it has adj front axle and same as C rears.They offered two kinds ,one was stanard and one was adj front axle which came with the C type rear wheels

the rear end looks kind of wide, like a C, and the rear wheels look deep dish like a C.... but the steering box in the  4th photo is definitely from a B and the front axle is a B.

I always wondered the same thing myself as i never knew that model C came in a wide front end version. the model number next to the shifter starts with B the next number after that is 8 but i cant remember beyond that. We had a C back on the farm and when parked next to each other the Rear end of the C was noticeable wider so i believe this to be a B with the optional adjustable front end  also has the rear lift to which i have the plows for one bottom for one direction and the other bottom for the other direction. not sure of model number  not sure how many options where available my guess is this one has a few of em

They could have put rear axle housing on the B to make it wider. If it starts with a B and has a wider housing thats prolly what they did. So it would sound as if your tractor is alot of tractors in one.
