I have this photo of an old Gleaner combine, taken at the Mount Pleasant Old Threshers Museum posted on a photo sharing website. Someone from that site has asked me what they're worth and whether there is any market for one ? They have inherited one from family but didn't give any details whether a tractor was included with it ? I remember seeing a working example on the DVD taken at the Portage La Prairie GOTO. Have members seen other working examples elsewhere and do you have any ideas on values ?

I saw one about 10 years ago listed for sale. Can't remember if it was ebay or somewhere else. It was in Nebraska I believe and looked complete.

I saw one at a GOTO several years ago. It was on a Fordson. It had an extended/tall grill screen.

Thanks for your replies. Looks like the tractor combos are quite rare and worth heaps if you find the right buyer. I will pass on this information.

Wow, this is the first time I've ever seen one of those. Thanks for posting.

Looks like a thoughtful design- gets you up plenty high enough to be up away from all the dust.Wacko  Clap

I have heard horror stories of crank starting the old Fordsons. Probably part of that was due to the fact farmers didn't have the best understanding of internal combustion engines that early on.
I wonder if any New words were invented when the guy went to crank up the combine to harvest some wheat?

If I remember right, the one I saw, there was an extension shaft from the belt pulley on the side that you cranked from.

I think there was one at the Indy State fair a few years back. Thought it was an interesting piece and wondered if they were able to fit on others makes?

There was one at the Gleaner plant in Independence. When they moved the plant to Heston, Ks, they restored it and now it sets inside at the new training center. MACK

The commentator on the DVD I mentioned above said that the 1927 combine could be used on McCormick Deering and Allis Chalmers tractors. The combine owner said that he found his Fordson tractor drove too fast in low gear to cope with heavy crops. He could only use half of the 7 foot front without having blockages.

I saw the one run at Portage La Prairie a few years ago,
they tried crank starting it with two cranks at the same time- ended up pulling it to start, and yes the old fordson was too fast to use full width in modern crop yeild conditions.
