Don(M0)'s comment about the "bark" of his WD45 under load while plowing brought back memories.  I love the sound of a WD45 with a Nelson muffler plowing and working away.  The sound is snappy and seems to say "let's go to work".  Another that I like is the M Farmall when they are working.  A different sound but still distinctive.   Tongue

Funny you say this, just thinking this afternoon after getting the G going again, that its engine sure has a distinctive sound. And that 10 HP engine snaps when hitting the throttle! Purrs at an idle too!

Dad's 7060 has an 8050 in it and a custom exhaust.  That thing sounds sweet going through the PS.  My WC with the straight pipe sounds fantastic when the gov hits.  And then there is McKims pulling tractor, Power Maxx.  180 with a 301 and twin turbo's making about 80 lbs of boost.  Dang it, now I've got the urge to see a pull.

i remember the sounds of two tractors working in the same field performing the same task like plowing or working ground but doing it at slightly different rpm. the rpm variance would drive me nuts. likewise ,at night running full throttle gassers and seeing the muffler glow red or that one inch of fire shooting out the top of the muffler on a 17 diesel under full load. loved seeing the little bullet red tail lights telling everyone where you were.

I really like the sound of a D-19D. It really snorts when plowing. This video is of it pulling a packer. rrhead(SD)

John, last I knew you could still get the Series IV oval nelson with the offset outlet from AGCO.  Problem is the price - $340 is what I remember.  I can look up the receipt for certain but I felt it was worth the original sound for a restoration.

Yes, you have got to like the 6 cylinder Buda sound.  I have two D17 diesels with offmarket mufflers.  They simply don't sound like the Nelsons.  I also would like to know where you can get the Nelsons.

I agree, a few years ago I took the 37 WC to a plow day,  I worked several days adjusting the distributor and carburator and she sure sounded fiesty when we hit a clay patch.  Not the deep sound of the big boys but sure is a sweet sound.

To me an angle exhaust WC with the standard unmuffled pinched pipe running up against the governor under a load just sounds like a real tractor to me. I also like my little 125 cubic incher in my C pulling tractor barking through  a straight pipe working hard on pulling sled! Kip

The deep rich throatty bass of a UC. I still remember her as she come to life for the first time in 12 years in our shed. I can hear an Allis Chalmers 426 coming down the road. I can tell it from other brands. Great question. I love to see the pictures of different AC's, but this is a great question.

My 1936 WC with pinch pipe sounds like its ready to go to work, but I've never worked it just putts around with it, then the 1953 CA with crome straight pipe w/ 2-14s on it plowing will keep ya awake, my fav is 1971 190xt crome pipe at 1200 rpm's turbo just starting to come to life with a whistle , I think its why I cant hear today "WHAT" !

Love the sound of a turned up 301 in a 180 tractor ; the uneven idle, the little puffs of smoke - dang I,m gonna go fire it up now !!

Also, really like the sound of grandpas D-17, at a low, low idle. Hearing that raincap 'ding, ding, ding' on the top of the muffler, just sounds good!

XT in PA, I second that! about ten years old running a 13 foot chisel on dads 7045ps going through the gears at night.   he also had a 4 12 in straight pipe on it, and in a couple of fields in the bottoms you could hear that one and many other tractors blarring out for miles.     sad day when it left for kentucky:(

gee i wonder where you ever saw a flame coming out the muffler of a d-17d? sounds like something some kid would do while plowing or working ground at night while dad wasn't looking. he-he those 262 buda's have a sweet sound all of their own.

I have a few favourite sounds. It's hard to beat the sound of a WD-45 talking trough a Nelson muffler. Love the sound of my D-21 (5" pipe)pulling 25' of cultivator , my D-17 IV diesel cultivating beans, and my D-15 II and D-12 III mowing grass.

I've been fortunate enough to have been able to drive nearly every model Allis made, and there hasn't been one I haven't enjoyed operating yet...but hands down, my vote has to go with a 19 diesel!!

Yes, the whistle is cool. Gramps and uncle let me hook up to the chopper last fall, dad shot this video. There is nothing quite like the turbo on a D-19.

I really like the sound of my 180 with the OEM muffler on it, just a distinct sound.  Also got a curved 3 inch chrome stack on it when I want to make some noise.  Also really like the sound of a 262 diesel.

A 426 that is straight piped is a beautiful sound. Also the twin turbos and stacks on the 8550 are pretty nice. I love the sound of my 210 pulling tractor at 3,250 rpm.

I like the sound of my 45 with curved chrome straight pipe at start-up with the throttle just open a little and also in a tractor drive with the throttle about half open going up a hill.
