It would sure be nice if someone made a modern cab to retrofit the old tractors....nice and tight and quiet, non-reflective glass, HVAC, nice  stereo, and a cupholder or two. I'd dress up one of my 175D's, get the muffler routed back by the cab like the newer tractors and be all set.....guess I'm gettin old.....

I agree.  I was looking at an ad for a CaseIH CX100 for sale....rated engine hp for the turboed Perkins was 100...and it is less cubes than the 175D! P.S. I forgot to add the turbo in my first dream.....and maybe a power reverser....

I found the description on his picture says 175 with reduced 8000 series cab.
So.......I think he was trying to interpret Eldon's dream with a photo-shopped picture.

That does look pretty comfy Eric. I was thinking of something a little more rounded and not quite as tall....

I created that picture using a copy-paste editing in my Microsoft Paint program.  Here are the two photos that I obtained from the internet to do it.

Oops..  Hit the post button to quick.  Here are the photos I married together to create the 8010 cab on the 175D tractor.
I picked the 8000 series cab because I felt its square lines complimented the 100 series rectangular character.  Im not sure the idea is too far off base.  If the 8000 series cab has a steering console incorporated (it including the clutch brake pedals, steering column, gauges, etc..) into itself, then why couldn't linkages be transferable via cable?  Imagine a smaller profile of the 175D's pd on the right hand console or possibly using the 8000 pd floor buttons by foot for it?  I know it out there, but if you're going to dream......

About 3 years ago a dealer had a 180 or 185 the someone fitted it with a 7000 series cab. That looked right nice. I think we saw pictures of it here.

Actually a turbo on a 175 AC is an easy swap, just find a 390T MF in salvage yard and pull the intake, turbo and exhaust of the MF.  DO NOT adjust fuel settings up!!!!   The MF is a 4-236 and the 175 is a 4-248,   It is going to happen here.

Eldon, I kind of think on that same order. My one-ninety XT diesel has an aftermarket cab on it, and every time I'm using it I start dreaming about decking the cab out to the absolute max with HVAC, sound deadening insulation, stero, auto steer, and so on, and so on..........then reality sets in and shoots everything all to heck! As Rfdeere said, a 6080 is what you need!  200 Cubic inch intercooled turbo will eat the 248 Perkins for lunch.  The only thing missing is the cup holder!

As far as I can tell, the first cabs JD built (at least for two wheel drive tractors) were the "sound guard" cabs for the '30 series beginning about 1973. Before that, tractors like the 4020 received square cabs from a variety of makers though so authorized by Deere that the parts are in the 4020 parts catalog.

The square cabs because of floor penetrations by pedals (actually the brake and clutch pedals lap over the front edge of the stock floor deck) and the three point arms, tend to trap noise and dirt, rather than separating the operator from those annoyances. Some claimed to be roll over protection but I've not seen any structure to compare to the Deere open air ROPS that I have. They look to me as prefilled coffins in a roll over.

There have been a few of the sound guard cabs mounted on 4020, it apparently takes much work to get them tight enough to reduce sound and dirt over the open cab.

In the summer time, I kind of prefer the open tractor, then if I'm not working the tractor too hard I can hear to birds not just see them.

I was quite happy when my custom combiner offered to haul my corn to the elevator with his truck instead of me dragging wagons at 20F with the open 4020. So if the cab was warm I'd have liked it then. But when he got a semi it was an even nicer ride and he completed the farm quicker not having to wait for me to bring a wagon back. Even though he shut down the combine to make each trip with the semi.

That is to say that the first generation of cabs may not be an enhancement over the open tractor, and that the tractor not designed for a cab may present serious difficulties in installing a later cab and getting it noise and dirt tight. Look at how the later tractors handle the three point rock shaft and the pedals. Likely the three point rock shaft isn't under the seat and the pedals are on top of the operator platform where before that the pedal reached over the edge of the operator platform and the seat was on top the rock shaft operator.

There is a 175 with a cab owned by a School District near here. I saw it at a garage several years ago & I wish I would have had a camera. It was a nice set up altho a little crowded, no room for grandkids. Sure would be nice feeding round bales in the winter...Harvey

Before worrying about the clutch, you need a ladder to get up to the cab!
