I forgot these pics were taken. Corn in this field averaged 193 Bu/Acre. 42 acre field only but my largest.

Nice loking combine. We sure had a beautiful fall season here in Minnesota in 2011 didn't we? Couldn't ask for better harvesting weather.

You can tell from the pics that machines been well taken care of. Good looking L2. Corn yield not bad either.

That is a good looking L2!  It brings back memories!  Did you add the 2nd fuel tank to the combine?  Wasn't sure if that was a factory option or not.  We added one to our L3 When we had it back in 2000 to keep us moving on.

Thanks guys. My manual shows a 2nd tank available as an option and that exactly doubles the capacity. The 2nd tank was on when I got the machine and it looks like a tank off an M that someone else put on later.

Lonn, nice looking L2,as you can see from my post I have an 82 M2 630's picking corn this fall to here in MD.Gotta love these old Gleaners still doing there thing.

I had a 79' M2 variable speed but never got to use it. I sold it to the neighbor and bought this L2. My neighbor really likes the M2. He never ran a Gleaner before. It's a miser on fuel and so simple he tells me. I already knew that!

I have a 2nd tank on my L3 also. It was on an M2 when I bought that and then transferred to L2 and L3. Can go at least 2 full days without refueling. Only problem I have is they don't empty at same time. Have to shut one off and then just use one at a time. rrhead(SD)

If there is a drain in the bottom of each tank you can connet a line between them and then it will maintain the same level in both of them the bigger the line the faster it will level out. One tip put a valve at both tanks incase you need to shut one tank off.

I've considered adding a 2nd tank to my L3.  How was the factory installation done?  Shutoffs on each tank and only use one at a time?

I've wondered how you have two tanks plumbed together and don't run one over when on steep hills unless you have shutoffs on each.  Also, if you have the return line going to the front tank, but are using out of the rear, will that be a problem? i.e., over-fill the front tank or empty the rear tank too quickly?  I guess I don't know how many gallons per hour the return line transfers.

I'm use to two tanks plumb together on trucks, but they only return to one tank and don't run over. And about running over on hills as long your moving it will not have time to transfer before over fill the other tank. And like I said the larger the hose the faster the transfer. Keep the hose around 3/8" to 1/2" and it should be enough to transfer fuel but not run fuel over on hills.

I was only 12 when this one was built. I bought it from Chris Strong down in Iowa. Not sure how long he had it but he must of taken very good care of it and he put some dollars innew parts into it. It has about 2800 hrs on it. The machine really can take corn. Right after I bought it the injector pump went bad and this year the cleaning shoe bushings went bad and shook the shoe up some so I patched it up to finish the season but I believe I will take the shoe out and put some new panels and shoe bottom in. I think the bushings, which were replaced just before I bought it, were put in wrong and that was the cause.
