You pull it back to dis-engage the PTO, forward is on. It's a 2 step process as there is another lever on the left side that engages the PTO gear in the transmission. Did the AC6060 take the place of AC170 or 175?
Did I remember reading you own one/two of those too?
If so, how are they alike / different, what do you ( & anybody else) prefer in each?
I may know a friend that has one with transmission problems. Don't remember what he quoted for a price, nor any idea how much it would cost or difficult to find parts?
I own several 170 & 175's, and personally prefer those (esp with hand clutch) over any other tractor or model for our farm!
Interested in yours / and others comments on this?

Bruce, I have both a 175 and a 6080. The 6080 is far superior overall (6060 is close, but not quite the same). Turbocharged AC 433 engine, hydraulic brakes, synchronized transmission (only between 3rd and 4th on 6060), locking differential, excellent visibility, no wrenches needed to remove engine panels. The only drawback is no power director. HOWEVER, if the one you found has tranny problems, you might want to stay away. Parts can be very hard to find and expensive. Bruce, This one still belongs to my dad, he's 81 and still uses it as needed on his farm. I personally do not have a 175 (The 175 in my name is from the 1/75th Ranger Regiment I served in) but my Uncle had one and I ran it some and I like dit very much. The only thing I did not like was the visibility as it seemed the fenders blocked a lot. i have used both the 175 and the 6060, both are great tractors, i do not miss the pd, because with the 6060, you have a truly independant pto that allows you to just push in the clutch to stop forward motion, and i have yet got it in a place where i needed to down shift to prevent lugging.
the european/fiat pto system is very reliable if you use it as it is intended, my old oliver (fiat)1355 has the same two lever pto system and it has never given a problem and it is now 42 years old and has well over 10000 hours on the tractor and has baled many thousand bales of hay.
just follow the instructions on how to use it and it should last a lifetime.
i too prefer the 6060 for mounting and visability, the flat deck makes it easier to get on and off of, but the height/center of gravity is higher than the 175.
the tractor above looks like it has been well maintained , but it also looks like it could use a new fuel cap to keep it from collapsing the plastic fuel tank ------------- i like old tractors of all colors |

what's the word on the fuel cap? I am assuming you are referring the need to pressurize the tank to keep it in shape? The one on it is original The ability to go from Hi/Lo on the fly is a boon in my book, which is why I like the PD. Having a Synch trans and the PD would have been the best of both worlds. It stays in the shed which does get evening sunlight and has faded the paint over the years. Not sure why the wheel centers rusted so much.

the caps will begin to go bad and will cause a vacum on the tank that will collapse the tank, i thought it looked like the tank might have been sucked in at some point ------------- i like old tractors of all colors |
