I have talked to a fellow that has rebuilt these heaters before, and Chad was on the right track with the nylon bushing. This fellow described to me that he used the insulation from an extension cord. If you have everything right and not grounded to the housing, the stud will  not get hot. I fixed mine with a piece of insulation from a 00 battery cable. Then I took cables and hooked it up to a battery. The element got hot and the stud did not. So I guess the ceramic bushing might work for a longer lasting fix, but insulation off of a battery cable worked also.  Dave.
