What are the models to buy?  What models should a guy stay away from? 

 

If a guy is looking at one, what should you look for?  What gets expensive to fix?

We have a few of them for show and others for play.  TT18 is later one with 18 hp. motor and keyed axle sprockets in place of pined ones on TT10's. Day and night difference in power and is a must for steep hilly terrain.  We run Diamond brand USA chain in them which helps a bunch! LESS Maintenance on them! And we have heavier set clutch springs installed. They are over 40 years old and even when new required maintenance and work from time to time! Steering Clutches, brake pads and drive belt are main wear items.  Clutches are $100 range to reline them. Old Rockwell 2 cycle motors also are expensive to redo and needs carburetor tinkered with from time to time. You can install 4 cycle engine in them also. No reverse in them! 

 As for looking at one, condition of body espicially on bottom! look at condition of sprockets, any bent axles? And if running how it starts and runs. Check clutches and brakes. Drive belt if good is at the very top and even little above drive pulley. Old tires will need replaced with new rims, adapters and tires if you want to run it and play with it.
