After this mornings 18* gave way to a beautiful sunny quickly warming day, I got to work again with the 170 and 3x14 Oliver plow around 1400 hours this afternoon. I ended up plowing around 5 plus acres of quite heavy clay loam. I plowed around 6 inches deep using third low running 1450 working under load rpm's. I was shocked when done and refueling...she took 10 gallons, right around 2 gals per acre. Believe me she was really working! Wow! Economical! My first time plowing with a 170! Can't wait now to get the XT done lol! |

Captain any time we plowed with the 170-175 the front axle was set at two holes not for just wonder were your rear wheel was set? The second plow should be center over the drawbar ------------- Farm stuff 8050,6690,175,F2,5050,WD |

| Looks good! But only 3 14's? I had a 170 with 4 16's, the 2000 monoframe series, covered alot of ground around Cherry Valley with them! When we have our plow day next year you will have to come up and join us! |

| D17 Jim...Sssssshhhhhhh.........need I say more? Guys once upon a time I had the 4 bottom x 16 series 2000 hyd reset plows on the 180 and IH 710 5x 18 on my 1566. But the other day I all of a sudden wanted to plow so I reborrowed my old Oliver 3 x 14's which we gave to an ex hired hand just so some one would use them and to make me more shed room. I have a 2x16 for the WD. [or are they 14?] Anyhow these fit the bill this week, and someday I'll grab a 720 x 4 for the XT maybe. But today I flew and the son should bhave finished 4 plots. Can't wait for daylight! |

| Tony I choose to run just under 1500 rpm's. She revs to redline easily. I like the speed in 3rd low at this power setting. I tried 2nd high too but where the rocks are it's just a tad too fast for my liking. With the 38 inch rears her speeds are faster than with the standard 28's. |

I'm partial to those AC170 / AC175 s, kinda like our dear friend Bill Long and his AC B s!
Is it OK, if I look like I'm addicted to those AC models? ( does 3 170's and 3 175's, and looking into another one sound too crazy? )...Ha! Keep those photos coming!

I also read your post, favoring those 170 / 175 s too! Enjoy your tractor photos & that beautiful garden work you're doing!
Wish you or someone could find me a front-mount cultivator for the 170 / 175 tractor, too?
Maybe it is the hand-clutch design, tough Perkins Engines, and good looking square hood & fenders that set apart those tractors? Good to see the Captain enjoying them!
Right now, my above tractor (photo) is in the shop. The front-mount hydraulic pump 'rubber-bushings' had to be replaced....whew a job...and $80 for the 4 of them! Is your pump behaving? Was it the hydraulic shaft ?

Yeah, I've got a couple with the Fuel Gauge issue and need brakes too. '
The Captain may have one of these issues too? (Don't intend to divert his AC Post)
Guess I'll have to post a question, How to fix my fuel guage and that brake 'pin' everyone talks about? Kinda need both...to work....ha!

| I see you must be the guy to talk to about the 170?? I am looking at buying one and the one big thing i see wrong with it is that i can take the pto shaft and move it in and out about a 1/4". From what i have seen on-line, it is a bolt on stub. Also can you tell me for sure what is wrong with it and what it would take to fix it? Any help would be great as im a big fan of allis, just looking for something bigger than my "C". |

Cadcorey, if your 170 has a pto with a bolt on stub you must have a 2 speed pto, you bolt it facing one way for 540 and turn it around for 1,000. That is all I know about that. My 170 has the standard 540, I have changed the seal and O ring, that job is pretty easy. |

Guys,
Thanks for trying to help. I have found a guy on here that has 180's that gave me the info i needed. It is just held in by the seal plate and can be pulled straight out the back to change the bearings. Again thanks and if i get it im sure i will be asking you guys more questions as i go along with it. Thanks again.

| If the tractor is working hard it should be at lease at full load rated rpm or at high idle rpm. It is hard on cylinder walls to work below rated load rpms, especially if it is a diesel working hard. |
