Engine has a slight skip to it. New points, plugs, condenser, wires and the engine still has the skip. The distributor rotor has some level of movement to it when I move it back and forth- in fact, I would say the points open maybe another 0.020" when the distributor shaft is moved in the direction of the points open/ close position. Think the distributor needs a rebuild? How much "wiggle" is allowed? Don't recall greasing the shaft below the rotor body. Thanks for your input.

Unsure. Need to take the loader frame off to get to the peep hole. What should it be at what rpm?

F-25 on the flywheel in the center of the hole at wide open throttle. I'll bet you're too fast on timing.

The shaft is not supposed to be greased (should not have a zerk there).

I think the Dr. is right... and I'll bet the slop is part, if not most or all, of the reason.
Do you have another distributor available to swap in temporarily?

A loose dist shaft causes unstable dwell and timing. A trick I was told by an old time A-C dealer is drive the bushing out of the housing. Cut it in half, reverse the two halves and put them back. The bushing is usually less worn in the center so cutting it in half and turning the pieces around will probably help. In reality this is 'cobbling', but sometimes we got to work with what's available...

A pertronix ignition conversion will tolerate a worn shaft, as the module will trigger the spark without an air gap that the points need . I had a rather sloppy shaft on a WD45 that a pertronix electronic module worked very well with, much cheaper than I could have the distributor rebuilt. Use 3.5 ohm coil. If later you find a better distributor, You will like the pertronix anyway for its hotter spark and no points/ condenser to maintain.

Set timing by ear, turn dist.to retard, then advance till it just starts to labor.
