I'm not wanting to start a big debate.Just wanting to hear experiences with using 134A or freeze 12 (replacement for R12)on an A6 style compressor.Have a couple of tractors with the A6 compressor I changed to 134 and they do ok, but going through a complete AC system on one now.Condensor cleaned and checked, expansion valve, compressor, etc. One mech said he had had trouble with the A6 compressors failing. He thought it was due to the high side pressure being higher than the A6 was designed for(using 134A).He suggested using the repacement freeze 12 and says it want be under such high pressure and thought the chances of compressor failure would be a lot less. It's staying well over a 100 down here and need something working that will stand up to the heat.

When we were retrofitting lots of road trucks we just used the R134a and the compressor that was there. We never used any of the "drop in replacements". Most of them have some flamable components and the risk of fire should a hose burst with the sytem under pressure was enough to keep us with R134a. If you are redoing the system change the compressor to a Sanden type unit. They are made for r134a and hold up real well. There are companies that sell complete systems to change everything over at once and if you really want it to work for a good while, that is the best way. Not the cheapest but the most reliable system when done properly.

I haven't baled anything yet, but I learned on another forum that if you put the foam insulation that comes in a 4X8 sheet over your evaporator that makes it run a lot cooler.  Don't know if that will help with your compressor issues, but thought Id mention it.
