Getting that time of year to do as they used to say "lay the corn by" or as Grandma used to say "plow corn" or as I grew up knowing it "cultivate the corn"
Put my CA cultivator on my CA this weekend that I acquired from Rich WI a year ago. It looks great on my CA. Thanks Rich!! I had to take it out and cultivate the end rows and it works perfect. Need to wait for the rest of the corn to get just a little bit bigger so I don't cover it up to bad.

The CA is a nice two row cultivating tractor. Easy to operate with the delayed lift to plow out the tire marks. Neat looking unit. Enjoy! Good Luck! Bill Long

| Thanks for those pics Wil. Do you have the rear gang depth adjustment rod or is it even necessary? Never seen the springs in the front. Whats the advantage or reason? I have collected a few sets and they all have shovels front and rear. |

| Looks like you need a set of shields or fenders that allows one to plow corn when it is little. They are kind of hard to find. Most people discard them because they do not know what they are. |

My dad bought a CA in 1956 with a 2 row cultivator. We did a lot of corn scuffling as we called it in Canada. I spent a lot of hours cultivating corn of our own and we did several of our neighbors corn fields. I still have the CA and 2 row cultivator with the shields for doing corn when it was short. |

Wil, I have a set exactly the same for my CA (not for sale though). Mine also has the shields. The rear lifts from the lift latches. ------------- AC CA, Ferguson TO-20, Ford NAA, M-M BG, AC #3 Mower, SC Plow, PH Digger, AC 720's with Ark 700 loader & Brantly Backhoe, "Mini B" w/flathead Ford V8 |

wkpoor, The set I have for my CA has shovels in front and springs in the back. I have an old mailer that shows a picture of the various combinations available for the CA. One picture is just like what I have. Mine is also missing the "rear gang depth ajustment rod". I haven't had any success in finding one. I do have both shields for it but one shield is missing the rod that holds it to the cultivator and the chain that lifts the shield up.
I do not have the depth stop for the back and I don't think I am going to need it, at least what I can tell from the little bit that I did on Monday. I figured if I do, I can put some stop blocks on the hydraulic cylinder.
According to my CA cultivator parts book, there were 4 different versions of this cultivator called CA-1, CA-2, CA-3, and CA-4.
CA-1 is equipped with spring trips and sweeps.
CA-2 is equipped with spring teeth and double pointed shovels (like mine)
CA-3 is a combination of CA-1 and CA-2. Spring trips and sweeps are furnished for the front gangs and spring teeth with double pointed shovels for the rear furrowing bar.
CA-4 (Southern Type) is equiped with spring trips and sweeps (heel bolt type) for the front gangs and high lift spring trips and sweeps for the rear furrowing bar.
The delayed lift is really nice.

I forgot to mention I was fortunate enough last year to pick up 3 sets of NOS fenders in 3 different sizes. I also have 2 rusty and typically bent old sets.
I'm guessing shovels work better in clay ground and springs in sandy ground.
Allis isn't the only mfg to have delayed lift. IH did it too on the at least the Hs and Ms I know of.

Lance, it took me about 4 hours to put it on but I had the sides disconnected from the front support. That includes time to run into town and back for bolts that I needed right before the farm store closed Sunday afternoon and also the time it took to bring the individual pieces from where I had it stored up to my shop to put it on the tractor. just put on a set of shields yester day for my boss on his ca ------------- wd with a freeman model 90 trip loader, wd45, 38 unstylled wc, b 10 garden tractor and 2-14 ac trip plow. grandpa has a 56 wd45. wd. allis chalmers snap coupler blade and 3 bottom snap coupler plow |
